PM9/CM9 Slide Release

    PM9/CM9 Slide Release

    Maybe I'm just a wuss- but I finally got to look at a PM9 and CM9 today at Bass Pro. The slide releases are very difficult to use and my thumb still hurts. Reminds me of playing guitar for 5 hours after not picking one up for 2 years! What's the deal? Especially sucks because you have to use it to chamber the first round.

    I was pretty much set on getting a CM9 'till this. I also looked at a Sig P238 (I have a SP2022)- that gun is HOT! Too bad it's SA though. At this point I think I've decided on a LCP with a laser. Can anyone tell me anything to change my mind.

    Man, I really, really wanted a CM9. Huge disappointment.....:32:

    The slide release is difficult because the mag follower is holding it open under spring tension. (That's how the automatic hold open works when the mag is empty.) Eject the mag and it becomes easy as it should be.

      When the magazine is loaded (or removed) it's easy.

        That, and the thing loosens up tremendously when you shouut 300 or 400 rounds through it. I can rack the first round no problem, and the slide release is much easier. Remember, you do have to break these little guns in for them to run their best.

        Now go buy one!

          Duh!!!!

          Guess there's my answer...Thanks for answering so quick. I'd probably feel worse/stupid except the guy behind the counter didn't know that either! Back on the bandwagon again..... A brand new CM9 will be mine as soon as the tax refund comes!

            You wont be sorry. You DO need to run at least 200 rounds through it before you carry... 500 and she is sweet!!!!

              When I got my CM9 and took it to the range for the maiden voyage I was totally embarrassed. I couldn't for the life of me chamber the first round without using two thumbs to release the slide. Fast forward 7 months, about 1000 rounds and a whole crap load of hand racking and it's as smooth as silk. Will release either with the slide release (one thumb) or sling shotting. Never fails to feed. It's still way stiffer to rack than a bunch of other guns out there but it's definitely manageable. It's definitely looser but I suspect i am also much more used to it.

              Go on, buy it, you know you want to.

                  than likely at bass pro u were trying torelease the slide with an empty mag in it, which is harder. U don't haveto use the slide release to load thgat first round either, but it helps alot until u get the hang od hand racking the slide.

                  buying an lcp is not a bad thing other than it is a 380 and it is apples and oranges in a 9mm and 380. listen to what these guys tell u, about the cm9, it is a great gun, IMO one of the best out there.

                  I won't try to change ur mind asI have an lcp, but it is just sits as my PM9 does it all and better. Ur not going to enjoy shooting the lcp alot. they are whgat they are, andthey are certainly not a range gun like the cm9 is andcan be... Kahrs after 200 rounds are totally different guns than round #1. They just get smoother with rounds down range and u as the owner get alot better in handling this small 9mm to... A gun and owner have tomate up properly to be a good working combination. That is for any gun.

                    I was once told, by a gunsmith, that it is a "slide lock" not a "slide release", therefore it is intended to lock the slide back sfter the last round. To release the slide you insert a full magazine (or with no magazine) and slightly pull back on the slide and release.

                      That may be true with most other pistols, but it IS the preferred way according to Kahr. In fact, when new, most Kahrs will malfunction when trying to accomplish the "slingshot" maneuver.

                        I have the LCP w/ a CT laser and the CM9. The LCP is a punisher to shoot and not near as refined as the CM9. I love my CM9 I'm at about 700+ rounds and it's SMOOTH. You'll like it if it fits your needs.

                        If you only get one then you have to think about your carry method a little more. If you get both you have some options, and the 9mm is for sure the better gun.
                        The only thing better than having all the guns and ammo you'd ever need would be being able to shoot it all off the back porch.

                          I got the LCP and actually enjoy shooting it. Doesn't seem too bad to me.

                          But couldn't get rid of the "Kahr lust". So I have a NYPD trade in K9 on layaway. I've never shot or even seen one in person, but if it's even half as sweet as it seems I will be one happy camper. I can see the LCP either in my back pocket with the K9 appendix carry, or the LCP in my front pocket with the K9 at 4 or 5 o'clock....

                            My PM9 has been able to slingshot since day 1. Flawlessly. 2 buddies have had the same experience...

                            Now, Jsmith, you will get FTF's when "slightly" pulling back on the slide and letting go....theres just not enough inertia...pointing the firearm towards your target, grip the rear of the slide and pull back hard enough that when the slide snaps back forward, your hand should be coming back to almost hit yourself in the chest. You'll get used to the amount of force you need to use, but keep it quick and powerful and you'll never have an issue. -- Its not a Glock, you cant ride the slide

                              I can chamber a round in my CM9 by either method. The problem that most have in using the sling shot method is improper technique. This vid will show you the proper method.
