New PM9 owner

Hello everyone first post here on Kahrtalk.

Ive wanted a PM9 for a long time and up until now it just didn't come together :32: last week I found a new gun with night sights at a decent price so here I am.

So far I have fired 450 rounds of FMJ and 50 rounds of Speer Gold Dot 124gr, with ZERO problems I am shocked at just how accurate the PM9 is! I can shoot it as well as my G19 just not as fast. The PM9 is very comfortable in terms of recoil with 115Gr FMJ and the Gold Dots are a little stiff but not a beat down like my R9 was. Its now riding with my XM as my EDC!

One thing I did for comfort when shooting +P was bevel the the slide stop and smooth it out a little. The good news is that after hitting it with some bead blast it looks stock. This is one amazing 9MM

Welcome to the forum and congratulations on your new PM9. I think you've just experienced something a lot of new PM9 owners go through: the realization that such a subcompact package can perform like larger size handguns. You'll probably also notice that your proficiency with it doesn't necessarily require that you shoot it regularly.

The Kahrtech section has some great advice on how to best clean and lubricate this gun as well as a bunch of other useful nuggets. Perhaps a "blinding flash to the obvious" but there is some really helpful information in the owner's manual especially when it comes to chambering the first round. If you have trouble reassembling your gun after you've cleaned it try pushing the extractor out slightly from the bottom side. It can sometimes get in the way when you are trying to put the slide back on the frame.

From personal experience (5 years of PM9 ownership) I've found that regularly (for me it's 1250 round intervals) swapping out your recoil and magazines springs will go a long way to keeping this gun reliable. In my opinion this short action design needs periodic, preventative maintenance to keep it tuned up.

The jury is still out on the 7-round magazine. Personally I've had good luck with mine but I also avoid putting to much pressure on it with my pinky finger when I'm shooting. Some will advise not using the 7-round magazine at all. It's enough of an issue to test it for yourself.

I'm new to the forum and the PM9 as well. Recently took advantage of Scheels' generous return policy and traded my 6-week-old Beretta Nano for it. I liked the Nano, but it was totally unreliable with about an 8% FTE rate after putting about 600 rounds of five different types of ammo through it. I've got about 300 rounds through my PM9 without a hitch. Very accurate and very easy to shoot. I've been shooting the Nano, a Beretta PX4 .40 S&W, a Sig P238, and a Bersa Thunder 380, and the PM9 is my favorite (although I have to admit, I still enjoy the single action and ease of concealment with the P238 when I can get it away from my wife).
