  • CW45 and Reloads

Well, I have put some more rounds through my CW45 with no problems, except.....
it does not like my cast lead reloads. It ate my FMJ reloads just fine, but it still has trouble returning to battery when it's lead. A few cycled fine, several times I had to push the slide forward with my thumb, and one time it just wasn't going into the chamber all the way. I even shortened the OAL a little. Funny thing is, when I shot the lead, it was the most accurate out of any loads that I have used.
Has anyone had any success with lead reloads through the CW45?

    Mine runs fine with LRN.
With FMJ normally running .451" dia. and Cast generally at .452" perhaps how you are sizing and crimping is causing the issue. What dies are you using? Are you seating and crimping in one step or two? Have you tried running any of the lead reloads through the sizer again after seating and crimping?

I am using Lee Carbide dies, including the FCD, which scales it down some. I am seating with the seating die, then crimping with the FCD.

I've read (don't have one myself) that the Lee FCD can cause issue with oversize lead bullets.
