  • New CM9 - THIRD Trip to the Range

Picked up my gun last Wednesday and finally made it to the range today. I prepped and lubed it according to the stickys in the tech section and left the slide locked back overnight. I fired about 150 rounds of various ammo. Had two small issues both with Winchester White Box. Once the slide locked back in the middle of the magazine and once the slide hung up before returning to full battery. Not a big deal since I expected a few hickups during break in and it was near the end of the day and the gun is pretty dirty.

Also, I was able to slingshot the slide on the first round of every magazine. I know the manual says to use the slide release but as a left handed shooter using the slide release isn't really the best option for me. I was pleasantly surprised that I didn't have any issues loading the first round this way. I expected to have a few.

Overall, very happy with the gun. Shoots well and the recoil was less than expected even with 124g +P ammo. Now if only my extra mags would hurry up and get here.

Welcome from a fellow leftie CM9 owner. I've tried both slingshot and slide release approaches almost from day one also. I concur with you that the slingshot is easier for us left-handers. I've not had a problem with the 6-round mags when using the slingshot method.

      Congrats again and welcome.

I plan on putting a lot more through it before carrying. I don't have my CPL yet so I have time.

Kahr is doing a CYA, and providing a method that will work for everyone, taking as much of the human factor out. If you can manipulate the pistol, and it works for you... no harm done.

Took it to the range for a second time today. I really love the way the gun shoots and I feel like I shoot better with it than I do my XD9sc.

But, I had two nose dives out of 200 rounds. Both nose dives were in the first 100 rounds with Speer Lawman 115 gr. I then put 100 rounds of wwb through the gun with no issues. I was using two new mags today at the range so I'm hoping one of them is the culprit. I took them apart when I got home and one was soaked with oil. I cleaned it and reassembled. Hopefully, that fixes my issue.

not likely its oil in the mag. was it a 7rd or 6rd mag that had the nosedives? mag sure the followers are not hanging up on the mag catch.

It was a 6 round mag.

All 4 of my 6 rd mags had a fair bit of drag on the mag release. The sticky on "prepping a new kahr" talks about disassembling mag and inserting mag housing in grip. Then inserting follower on end of mag spring to check for drag when it hits mag release. A little sanding eliminated the drag. Might have been guilty of fixing something that wasn't broke but the gun works good. Did the same thing to 7 rd mags for CW9 and they work fine in the CM?

Thanks for the tip guys. I'll check for drag before going to the range again.

Jmonte, I've had the same problem and just filed my followers per numerous threads. Also ordered stronger Wolfe mag springs ... More push should be good. Sucks to have Mickey Mouse problems like this, but it is a Korean owned entity ...

get used to some gun smithing when owning a kahr. it sucks that kahr hasn't made one attempt to fix these problems with the nosedives or followers catching on mag releases as there gun line develoment i.e. running changes.

but if you do work the bugs out they are a solid edc weapon. but i truely IMHO believe that some Kahr guns are not for the first time gun owner.

Hogue Handall Jr Grip for CM9

Brand new shooter around 400 rounds at the range. Been firing everything I can get my hands on in the small 9mm category. I wanted the CW until I realized I can buy the extended mag for the CM and have a great pocket carry. I was always more accurate at the range with the Kahrs then other smaller pistols. Bought the CM9 for IWB and pocket carry. I think I want to add a Hogue grip but I do not want it to interfere with pulling out the gun from either holster. I bought a Tommy Theis IWB and a Fist leather for pocket carry. CCW class next week. Thanks for the sticky on a new Kahr as I missed it.

I’m a left handed shooter so using the slide release to load the first round is a bit inconvenient for me. So, I’ve been practicing (with snap caps) using the index finger on my weak hand to manipulate the slide release instead of slingshoting to load the first round. It works pretty well and is becoming second nature. I also polished the outside of the barrel and “cleaned up” the follower in one of my mags (I left the other two alone).

I put 300 flawless rounds through the gun today. Very happy with the way it performed. I shot with my strong hand, weak hand, two handed, one handed trying to get the gun to malfunction but it wouldn’t. The only thing I stayed away from was slingshoting.

Today brings my round count to 650. All of my issues were within the 200 round break in period so that makes 450 trouble free rounds. Next step is to put about 100 rounds of my carry ammo (Winchester PDX1 124gr +P) and if that performs well then I’ll be ready to start carrying.

I was having a bit of buyer’s remorse after my last trip to the range but today I’m quite happy with my purchase.
