New to me Kahr PM9

I want to start off by saying. This is a great forum. I found a lot of good info on here that helped me decide what carry gun to purchase. Which is why i joined, and why I'm sharing my first experience with a kahr firearm. Here's a pic.



I bought a used PM9 from a fellow member of my local gun range yesterday. It was nice to get to test fire it before I bought it. I put 125 rounds through it without incident. I also used the slingshot method to chamber the first round about half the time. I didn't have a problem. It had a CT laserguard on it, which I'm not a fan of. Especially since it has a set of tru dot night sights already on it. So the laserguard is in the classifieds. When I got home, I tore it down and cleaned it. While I had it apart, I also polished up the barrel a little bit. This gun came with a cheap uncle Mikes holster that kept coming out of my pocket with the gun. The problem was that it's just a little too deep for the PM9. So I started looking around for something to act as a spacer in the bottom of the holster, to see if that was really the problem. So I put 1 AA battery wrapped in tape, in the bottom of the holster. This will have to work until I decide what pocket holster to buy, or maybe I'll order a sheet of kydex and try making my own. I have a WC IWB holster on the way that I found in the classifieds.

This is a very pleasant small gun to shoot, especially compared to my friends DB9. Very manageable recoil, great trigger, and full size sights.

Gotta look up Aloha, not familiar with that town, if I didn't see OR, I'd probably be looking at that island out in the Pacific that stole my beloved battleship the USS Missouri.

I think im going to try my hand at fabricating a kydex pocket holster. I like the idea of retention, and being able to push it off with my thumb. But for now the uncle Mikes with my battery mod seems to be working quite well. I may do some trimming on the uncle mikes and have my wife sew it back together once im happy with it.I unloaded it and made sure it was clear, and practiced drawing from the pocket of my cargo shorts yesterday. I think I'll try to take 10 minutes a day for the next few weeks, to practice my draw. I've been carrying in a iwb or owb holster for a few years, and im pretty quick with that type. Im really excited to try something this small in a hybrid iwb setup like the WC I just purchased.

Congrats and welcome. You've obviously been around shooting for a while. It took me a couple of errant purchases to realize one needs to put in alot of thought and research before purchasing a handgun.

Thanks guys, it's been a long road to my decision to buy a kahr. Originally I was going to buy a keltec pf9. I ended up with a p3at in a trade, and it was unreliable, poorly made and had an awful trigger. So I crossed the pf9 off my list. My next choice was a Diamondback db9. One of my friends bought one, and it wasn't fun to shoot, the slide bit me a few times, and the trigger was meh. Then to top it off, I started reading threads on the db9 forum talking about how short they thought the life of the frame was. It sounded like it was between 3-5k rounds, and that the gun would eventually beat itself to death. I shoot my carry gun everytime I go to the range, about 1500 rounds a year. So that was off the list. My dad has a Ruger lc9, and it's ok, but I don't like all the CA compliant crap Ruger put on it, and the trigger isn't great. Then I finally handled a kahr and dry fired it. It fit my hand better, the slide was high enough over the grip to not bite me, it had real sights, and a great trigger. So I saved a little longer and waited until I found a good deal on either a cm9 or a pm9. And a great deal came up first on a pm9. This forum definitely helped me decide which model I wanted and what I should look for when I went to buy one. Thanks again guys.
