  • Disassembly of CM9?

I am thinking of buying a new CM9, and a friend was nice enough to let me take his to my range to see how I like it

It turns out that I loved it. The ergonomics was great, fit my and pointed perfectly and was amazingly accurate. I put 50 flawless rounds through it, and decided that it was going to be my new EDC, That I would pocket carry with the 6 round mag when I wore my shirt tucked, and carry either OWB or IWB with the 7 round mag when I wore my shirt untucked.

Well, since my friend was nice enough to let me shoot his gun, I decided to clean it for him. So, I watched the video demonstrating how to disassemble the gun, and went to work.

To my great surprise, and distress, Regardless of what I did, I could not get the slide release off.

First, holding the slide back to line it up long enough to even try to get the pin out was very difficult, and then when I managed to do so, no way would the pin move.

Fearing, I would damage his gun, I finally gave up.

Now, I am not new to guns, having owned a number of different makes, including a 1911, and have never experienced such difficulty taking one down.

Since I shoot almost weekly, and clean my gun after each range session, I am rethinking getting a Kahr if it will be such a struggle each time I go to disassemble the gun

Can someone tell me what I am missing here, is there a trick or technique that I am not aware of to make the process easier?

    Thanks.

Are you using one hand to pull the slide back to line up?

I'm having a heck of a time finding a vid of someone doing it like I do. Seems to be the easiest way IMO. Like you would do a Glock.

Heck here is a Glock vid. Watch how he grabs the gun to pull the slide back. That's how I do it and it seems to work great. The slide stop can be tough to push out.

      LProf,

On newer CM9's the springs are so stout, it's hard to disassemble the first dozen times.
Remove Mag and triple check that chamber is empty. (Sorry I know you're experienced but I still had to say it)

Many folks have used a tapered piece of wood (think chopstick) down the ejection port and slide the chopstick further in until the marks line up. Then with the blunt end (handle) of a screwdriver tap the end of the pin (right side) until it pops loose. Resist the impulse to use the blade under the lever to start it out. Couple of good raps on the other end will pop it out.

Remove the slide by pulling the trigger and sliding off the front. You'll see the spring and guide rod assy. and the barrel then. Slip the spring off the barrel and remove barrel.

Once you do this a few times I promise it'll get easier. I can pop my slide release out by simply pushing the pin out now.

That notch in the rail is supposed to be there

"Laws that forbid the carrying of arms disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes. Such laws make things worse for the assaulted and better for the assailants; they serve rather to encourage than to prevent homicides, for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence than an armed man."

The first several times I took mine down I had to do it like the video on the Kahr website...tap the end of the slide release with a screwdriver handle. Now that I've run 500 or so rounds through it it slides out nicely. I don't even have to be precise about lining up the marks...just apply pressure with my thumb to the end of the slide release while I pull the slide back. As soon as it gets aligned the slide release comes right out.

Like Tinman said...the magazine must be out of the gun otherwise the pin pretty much won't come out.

OK, thanks that seems like a very good suggestion. With my 1911, there was a after market device to hold the slide back. The tapered piece of wood, I guess, would accomplish the same purpose.

you have to make sure that the cut out in the slide lines up. My lines on mine are off a little....

There is a "trick" to it. Once you have the pin out the hard part is over. Next move the slide forward until it stops, THEN pull the trigger and the slide will release.

Yep, Tip the gun and watch the cutout/slot, not the lines
I apologize if my post contains the same or similar information as someone who has posted before me.

The slid stop pin on my cm9 was REALLY hard to get out the first couple times I broke it down. Now that the gun has several thousand rounds through it, it slides out with a simple push. Really loosened up after probably 500 though. Don't let that one "problem" stop you from buying one of the best carry guns out there!

O yeah... and welcome to the forum!

everything seems to go smoother after a few hundred rounds out of the gun. Also a tad of great on that little slide lock spring will help alot to. Once a person does it a few times himself, he soon learns tricks of the trade. I have always felt I would rather hamve my slide lock lever come out alittle hard than to have it come out accidently. U can't have ur cake and eat it to
. My PM9 has over 34,000+ rounds through it, and runs much better than an illegal trying to get across our border

Don't mean to appear dumb, but not sure what you mean by the "cutout/slot, as opposed to the "lines."

                          Thanks for the welcome.

My problem right now is that I am reluctant to experiment with my friend's gun.

The little half-moon cutout in the slide where the top of the slide release pin will come out of once it's lined up with the pin.
