I bought my wife a CM9 for Christmas. When I was loading the magazine, i could only get 5 rounds in. Later, when trying to load the weapon, I was unable to get the barrel to move forward after pushing down on the slide stop. It seems like the barrel gets stuck when there is a magazine with ammo in the weapon. With no magazine, or with a magazine and no ammunition, the barrel does not get stuck. Am I doing something wrong?

The magazines are very stiff when new. Fill the magazines and let it sit. Slide release does not work well when empty by design. If you notice the pin on the magazines follower, that pushes the slide stop up. So when you run it dry it stays back. Pull the slide and manually engage the slide stop. Stick magazine in while loaddd and release the slide.

If you want to close the slide, drop the empty mag first.
Look for a thread that shows the corners to sand down on the mag, the part that pushes up the bullets can be sticky when new if they haven't been deburred well.
All part of getting accustomed with your new Kahr. Congrats! Enjoy!!

Wait, so in order to use the firearm, I need to sand down the magazine? Why don't they just send it to you already sanded? I still can't for the life of me get this thing to load correctly. Anybody else have any other suggestions before I send it back and buy my wife a another brand of firearm?Originally posted by ZardozCZ View PostIf you want to close the slide, drop the empty mag first.

Some have reported that their mag spring was installed backwards. You might check that. Most CM9's are flawless, mine included. Sorry yours has an issue. Check the mag spring and if you still have a problem call Kahr. They WILL make it right.Originally posted by GoTigersGo View PostI bought my wife a CM9 for Christmas. Well I figured it out. The only pistols I have are 9mm. I loaded it with .40 ammo that I didn't know I had. I assumed all the ammo I had was 9mm. That's why I was only able to get 5 in the mag, and that's why it didn't work!
To sum it up, I'm an idiot. I got it to work, and my wife is excited to fire it. Hopefully we can get out soon.

"Laws that forbid the carrying of arms disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes. Such laws make things worse for the assaulted and better for the assailants; they serve rather to encourage than to prevent homicides, for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence than an armed man."
--Thomas Jefferson (1764).

Glad you figured it out and posted back honestly about what the issue was. Too many people won't admit when they've done something wrong, so then someone thinks about buying a new gun and they do a quick search and just see that your gun wouldn't even load the ammo, so they assume the CM9 is junk.
Welcome to the Forum, and hey, you've added a new tool to the repetoir of answers..."Do you have the right ammo?" :P
