  • Highest capacity mag for PM9(reliable)

Title says it all. What in the hive mind's opinion is the best mag, with the greatest number of quarters in it, for this little guy? Looked/searched the forum, but the promag 9 seemed to have mixed reviews. Looking for a second mag for carry purposes.

Only a second... that's cutting it pretty close! I like 8-10 mags or more!
One mag is NO mag... quite easily! The 8-round extended grip is what I use for carry spares... and I have a bunch of those, but I have several SS flush-steel-based mags for CCW. My favorite for spare carry or the range is the K920G.

New to the CM9 thing but the 6 appears fairly bomb proof with the 7 being less reliable? Is the 8 better? Have to wonder if going from 13 (7+6) to 15 (7+8) would make a ton of difference. There's a point where I think I'd rather be packing the G19 and get 15 (or heck...20 with a G17 mag with a +2 extention).

        8 round magazine

        Hi Sgian
I've been doing some work on the 8 round mag to make it reliable, had a chance to check it out yesterday at the range. Look at my thread in this forum (8 round mags will work in cm9 I will show you how) should be on page 2 or 3 in there I was talking about using the 6 round spring in the 8 round mag, It ran perfect with jhp also do the follower mod.I believe there is to much force from the long spring causing the rounds to dive try the shorter spring tell me what you think after you try it

I have had great luck with the seven round magazines.

My seven round mag has a slightly modified follower but it is totally reliable. The dumb question of the day, why do you want more than seven rounds and risk reliability? When I feel the need to conceal, I go to the Kahr PM9 with possibly a second mag in my pocket. Otherwise, it is a full size double stack SIG 226 with 18 rounds aboard.

If the spare magazine is not contained within a confining holder, the bullets can "migrate out"... sometimes ALL of them. The 9mm Kahr mags are prone to that.

Kahr six round. I've never trusted the seven, plus it detracts from the carriability of the pistol.

                  EIGHT!! The more the merrier.

Indeed NOT in the grip, but is to carry as a backup mag. (just as the OP stated..)

Thanks for all the responses guys. Looking around the site, I had pretty much gotten the idea that the eight was better than the seven. Very grateful for the confirmation. I'll order one of them and a spare spring for a six rounder. Spot on with the migrating bullet comment. I ordered a spare mag carrier from CrossBreed the other day when I pulled the spare out of the pocket and the top round had decided it didn't want to hang out with its buddies anymore.
Agreed, when I am feeling particularly paranoid, I pack a G19 with a spare extended G17 mag. Depending on what I am wearing though, it gets a bit hard to hide. With the PM9 though, I can conceal wearing pretty much anything. Well, except for a speedo.

I used to shoot IDPA with my Blocks.. just last month I shot with the PM9, that was my first time out with a Kahr.. I use a Blackhawk double mag pouch and no lost of rounds throughout the shoot.

May be I got lucky on my 7 & 8 rounders, or may be mag carrier makes a different? Dunno ...

I understand the mag carrier is the way to go.

I carry the six round mags in the weapon and one in a pants pocket. I carry in a pocket holster at work. I've found the seven and eight round mags have bullets come out in the pocket. Not so with the 6 round mag.

I wonder if that promag ten rounder would work with the kahr 8 round spring? I wouldn't mind a ten round for back up. Right now I have the 7 rounders for back up and they all function as they should as long as I keep them in a mag carrier, I think you should do that anyway though but I understand its bulky.
