  • First Round FTF

OK, I've read all the threads on nose diving and all that good stuff. I want to know what you all think I should do.

I've fired roughly 300 rounds through my CM9, absolutely NO misfires. The six round mag runs great no issues. I have two seven rounds that I experience issues with loading the first round into the gun. Slide is locked open, I insert the seven round mag and hit the slide release and the slide is locked open. I look into the chamber and the first round is angled downwards enough that it won't go up the feed ramp. I pull the mag out and notice the first round is not completely against the back of the mag. I push the bullet back (mag lips seem tight, bullet doesn't seem to be a good fit) and reinsert the mag. Perform slide release and gun functions perfectly. This happens on both seven round mags. I notice it happens more using Winchester (white box) ammo (FYI).

BEFORE I start doing all the recommended remedy's, what do you all think I should do to fix the issue?

I'm comfortable carrying the gun with the six round mags but not the seven. Want to get this taken care of before having to depend on it.

when I do carry my cm9, it's only with six round mags. The "sevens" stay with the cw9

    been there, done that

Off the subject. Have you used those hogue grips. Thinking I might like a thicker grip but....... Problem is I've always shot full size guns so I just need to get used to the smaller grip.

I decided to go to all 6 round mags all with Pierce extensions ... the best of both worlds.

Funny, Kahr said they would exchange the mags with no issues and I can even get the six round mags if I wanted. I asked if there are issues with the seven round mags and can they be fixed? The reply was there are absolutely no issues with any of their magazines.... They must not view this website.

I would take the 7 round mags apart to ge sure the mag spring is installed correctly.

Ifthey are OK, then IMO I would contact kahr ask ask if they will take um back in exchange for the 6 round flush mags, and just sticki with it. that is just me, some here want that extra round which IMO hen they should have bought the cw seriesand got the bestofboth worlds, but we have seen many issues with the 7 round mags in the small kahr frames just not doin right. there are some fixes on the kahrt ech sectionthat might help if uthat is a burning desire.

POlishing under the mag feedlips is a good thing, polishing thge feed ramp is a good thing, both might help that 7 round mag do better.

I smoothed and very slightly altered the angle of the mag follower using a piece of 600 grit wrapped around a pencil. It worked wonders for feeding issues. I did about half of what was done here. See post #11.

Did you just sand the follower? How much did you sand off?

I ordered some replacement springs from Wolf. They are advertised to be stronger springs. The people at wolf heard from customers that changing the spring helped. I will try it out before sending the mags in.

good idea. not sure thatwillsolvemuch as ur issue is with thefirst round in a loaded magazine. so that round is under alot of pressure anyhow. But giveit a shot anyhow. wolffs springs are 5%stronger, they say and I think it certily is a plus when ur down to that latcouple of rounds where the spring is now almost fully extened it range of effectivenss, soit hasto be ahelp there--Just sayin..

I just sanded slightly to make the ramp angle of the follower a little longer. If you look at the two photos in the post, I was somewhere in between the two. try to take off the absolute minimum amount of material. My test was very slowly closing the slide with a dummy round in the mag. All I wanted was not to have to release the slide using the slide stop. I did three mags and they all allow me to do that. I could not do that with the stock mag follower angles.

Did that take care of the failure to feed issues with the seven round mags as well?

thats why this forum is so so good. what could be a real brain teaser , u found out was not much to do when one is shown how. these guys here are good. What u did is not necessary of 905 of kahrs but when we getone doin what ur's was doin the fix seems to take care of it

some here would say FOKK" it kahr made it let them fix it and indeed they would be in the mean time u would be out ur weapon yadda yadda. That is a owners choice to make but some of these little brain teasers are so so easy to cure once u find this forum. Just sayin

+1 on the follower mod. Polish every surface involved in feeding. Simulate or help along your breakin period a bit. I experienced the same nosedive in my cw9 but when I went through the mags and sanded them down it eliminated ftf completely. I also compressed my springs a bit to lighten tension and polished the mag lips. It all just simulates a bit of wear really other than the mod to follower. I think the main thing the follower mod might do is decrease spring tension a bit and seat bullet a bit more securely. Take your time though and pay close attention to detail. PS, I also bent my uppermost spring edge to give more front end tension and added a bit of curvature to the springs shape for more front end tension.
Heavy is good. Heavy is reliable. If it does not work, you can always hit him with it.

                              Follow Up:

I sent my gun to my gunsmith and had him polish it up. The barrel and feed ramp can pass as a mirror. My gunsmith rimmed the feed ramp and it solved all my issues. Bullets fly out of the magazine (exaggerating here), zero issues and flawless performance. I didn't do anything to the magazine. Happy, happy, happy
