Dis-assembly aid

Since I don't have 3 hands I decided to see if I could make something to make it easier to get the slide stop out.
I found that a 8-32 nylon thumb screw was nearly the correct size. A few file strokes on the threads and my PM45 aid was finished.
Tried it in a PM9 but it was slightly oversize. Made a second one for my PM9 but I filed the threads off 2 sides 180 degrees apart.

Now that is one K.I.S.S. solution. I like it. Where did you get the thumb screw from (Home Depot or Lowes perhaps)? How about something other than a screwdriver to "pry out" the slide stop?

how long it will take but I can finger pull my PM9 and P380 slide stop out with ease. I always grease that slide stop pin and I have had it out and in so many times that I do think it easy to remove without any 3rd hand helper. My K9 is another story, that pin is held in by a very stout spring. it needs help to get it out..

Is that the same application that somebody used a chop stick for? I never could quite understand what they were trying to do with it but it makes some sense to me now. Must be the pictures! I'm assuming that as I suspected the recoil spring is quite strong, hard to hold back while removing the take down pin. Looks like a good tool, I'm fresh out of thumbscrews but I shall seek a suitable facsimile. (jocko that means kind of the same thing)

In fugarwi we refer to it as the shady place. You gotta know I only place sharp obstacles in your path to keep you tenderly on your toes only out of love (not in any mano mano way) and respect. You da man. Hey what about my caveman question?

I think I got them at Lowes, don't rectumember.
I just use another nylon thumb screw to push it out from the other side.

You had to go and ruin my evening, I had done good all day (though it was a good day, good day for drinkin), and had not seen a reference one to that that...I'll stop now before the black helicopters show up.:31:

I use a piece of wood lathe that I cut to the needed size, that I slip into the open breech, to use in disassembling my K9. I can do it without, but the lathe makes it much easier.

I was also planning to lathe-turn a wood piece with a finger knob similar in shape to the nylon thumb screw. The sizing then could be very precise. The same could be done with a piece of nylon or plastic rod.

I was also figuring that maybe a wooden or plastic dowel belt-sanded into a "flat screwdriver" shape would be better on the gun's finish than a steel screwdriver in prying out the slide stop. The other end could be turned into a flat topped knob that could be used to hammer start the slide on its way.

That is exactly what I was talking about using the chop stick for....I have a bad left hand and it is hard for me to try and hold the slide open the correct amount...One night I was taking down my CW40 and saw the chop sticks from a Chinese take out dinner on the counter and the little light bulb over my head came on....Sure nuff they are tapered just the right amount to hold the slide open to the witness marks to remove the slide stop and since they are wood they wont hurt the feed ramp or barrel and when done just throw it away....I got a whole bunch of them from the Chinese restaurant last time I picked up some take out....I can use my finger to remove the slide stop now but at first it was very hard to get out and I had to use a plastic mallet to tap it out from the other side....IMHO thats much better than trying to use a screw driver to pry it out and risk scratching the slide....

It's really helpful when you find something like a chopstick and can put it in your your mouth to give you that "third" needed hand sometimes.

Yea it helped me but didn't your mother warn you about running with a stick in your mouth........ I used it to slide down in between the breach and barrel to hold the slide open so I could get the slide stop out without cussing so much....If my left hand gets any worse I may be forced to give up semi autos altogether and go back to revolvers....Its he!! getting old, Hair falls out of where it should be and starts growing in places it shouldnt, Things that shouldn't be stiff are and things that should....Oh well you get it....
