  • First 200 rounds and only....

Howz it everyone, I'm new to this site and to the Kahr family. Just purchased a CM9 and did the cleaning recommendations and lubing as mentioned on the site, except for the buffing of feeding chamber on the barrel. Bought some azoom's and practiced the trigger pull for an evening prior to the range today. First off I ran 200 issue free shots....but did have quite a few issues with the slide not opening and locking once empty. Please excuse my inexperience with proper gun lingo, because I'm fairly new to shooting. It happened the first three times and i wondered if the CM9 didnt lock open when done. But then it started locking open for the next few. It did it about 7-10 times. So, although nothing else happened except my pretty poor shots in the beginning. I did get a hang of it after about 50 rounds. Have to admit my girlfriend shot better then I today. Overall, I really enjoyed the CM9, except for the sharp Mag when loading bullets. Any help as to what I may have contributed to this happening would be appreciated. Thanks all.

A Kahr being such a small firearm, it's really easy to 'ride the slide'...meaning having your thumb just touching it when it comes back on that last round. Even a small amount of contact can cause it not to lock back properly. Try and pay particular attention to that and see if it helps. And keep shooting. Congratulations on the new gun and welcome!

      First 200 rounds and only....

^+1. If I'm running my gun hard and moving my feet target to target sometimes my grip gets lazy and my thumb rides the slide. Thumbs forward grip and keep that sausage off the slide stop.

What type of range fodder were you running. Remington UMC ammo is a little on the weak side. A new tight gun and weak ammo can contribute to failures to lock back after the last round. Once the gun loosens up it will probably lock back just fine with any ammo. Keep your gun clean and lubed.

I agree with Muggsy. Keep it cleaned and lubed. Keep racking the slide when empty and keep shooting it to break it in. Your accuracy will improve. Try shooting off a bench to get the feel of that trigger and carry that feeling over to shooting when you are off the bench. Some dry fire practice will help you adjust to the trigger too. Good luck with your new Kahr.

Sounds like you guys nailed it. The issue never happened with my girlfriend, only myself. So I gaurentee it was my fault. I will pay attention to this next time I shoot. Can't wait to shoot her in the morning. Will keep y'all posted. Going to use some brake fluid and give a good clean and lube this morning. Thanks again for y'all's help.

One more question. I noticed a small split in the center of the back of mag. Couldn't notice any pictures if this was standard. I've just never noticed this before.

it thatysplit is up at the very top, that is normal. They are plasma welded kand it stops there. I think ur OK without seein any photos. All splits in the back of kahr magazines have been at the sides of the back of the magazine, and not in the middle. Just shoot it like u stole it.

guys here are telling u is about right. When new the recoil springs are strong and after x number of rounds the springs take their designed set and with a proper grip the slide will do its part there after. U gott havbe a good grip for that is what makes locking open actually work.U will get used to it. I would bet when u shoot defene ammo which ius hotter than normal fmj range type fodder that all will be OK. As u stated is was working itself out of that issue even as more rounds were shot.

welcome aboard here, good wise guys that will treat you right.

Ummm. . .You need to use non-chlorinated spray brake parts cleaner not "brake fluid". And you basically use it to flush out the striker channel through the firing pin hole AND the small hole in the bottom of the slide beside the round stripper bar.

When or if your mags split, it will be down the fold on the rear of the mag. It will be very evident when of if it happens.

                      They will look like this...

                      Or this...

Clean and lube a new pistol well. Use only full power ammo for break-in such as the 124 gr. NATO spec ball from Win. or Fed.

Get yourself a Magdula Uplola. Makes loading those magazines much easier and quicker. Your fingers and thumb will thank you for it !

What Grotman is trying to say is "Maglula, uplula". He's picked up a little Jockoitis. :-) If you are not too familiar with pistols you might not be able to find the magazine loader he is referring to without the correct name. They are a great loader and work with most pistol calibers.
