cerakoting?

I know nothing about the cerakoting process other than I like the look. Just a few question, please.

I have a CM9 and I'm wondering if the slide can be cerakoted to match the rest of the pistol or must the whole gun be done?

Obviously the slide is coated externally but how about internally? And if it has to be done internally, is function affected at all?

What might be the pros and cons of having this done?

Lastly, any ideas on the cost of having it done by a pro, someone who guarantees the work?

My slide is currently out being Cerakoted. I stripped it out completely and gave them the slide, rear cover plate and slide release. They are going to do them all graphite black which should be about the closest match to the lower. I didn't do the trigger as it's a major PITA to get out and back in.

Mine is going to run about $60, it may be a little more as they are going to install night sights for me. I went on Cerakote's website and they have list of their certified applicators. The one I found does all the Cerakoting for Colt on the new 1911 Marine Corp model so I figured if they're good enough for Colt they're good enough for me.

Cerakote shouldn't affect the function of your firearm what-so-ever.

They have the bake style Cerakote and they have Cerakote "C" which is strong and easy to use if you have ever painted anything. The trick is prep and make sure you have all the oil off. Some people do the bake Cerakote on fire control parts as a lubricant and anti wear protection. It is very hard to remove once hardened.

PMJ9 cerekoted by accurate Iron about 6 years ago and I pocket carry it 24/7 and trust me not a wear mark has shown on that finish. This sh!it is amazing stuff. I havemy slide done in a titanium type finish. If the people who do it know there stuff u can't beat it

Can't comment on Cerakote, but I'll tell ya that I KalGuard (KGKoatings) K-Koated many a pistol and rifle and never had a functional problem of any note. Upon reassebly, if there is a build up, the assembler will finesse the parts via sanding or otherwise removing the finish. This happens on pins and sliding parts mostly. Can also happen on parts like the plate at the back of the slide, which fits into a rather tight slot.

Functionally, you need to put a box or two through the weapon, in order to wear in the new finish where is rubs on other parts.

I've done two AR15's, a CZ-75, a few 1911's, my Kahr, another guys Kahr slide...a Remington 870, a few customers pistols that I can't remember, a Browning HP, a Ruger 10/22. They all needed a little breakin, since I coated the parts completely, inside and out. After a short break in, everything ran like it ought to (except maybe that Kahr slide... never got any feedback on that for function).

I'm looking at Cerakote and Duracote. I like that Duracoat is available in a special aerosol that mixes the hardener before spraying. I only intend to do this once, so I'm not going to invest in spray equipment or have my wife yell at me for baking guns in her oven.

I just had my wife's PM9 slide Cerakoted in burgundy (her choice) and my K9 in a special black.
We're really happy with the looks and the feel. And it will last a long time
A friend tried to do his own durakoting. It started to wear after a while

I have several Glocks that have been Cerakoted Graphite Black completely. There are noticeable color differences between the frame and slide. since they are polymer and steel slight differences are inevitable and part of what you have to live with. Exact color matches are not possible with dissimilar materials.

I dont think I would do mine in burgundy but the more I look at it the more unique it is. I think it could grow on me.

It could have been worse. She thought about having stenciling done as this lady did on her AR15

I jut noticed that the pic I took of the wife's PM9 was a different shade then what it really is. This is the real shade of burgundy on her PM
