I'm about to buy my first pocket holster for my PM9, and one for my Seecamp. I often wear jeans, and I'm guessing that I'll prefer back pocket (wallet) carry when wearing jeans. I'm between the DM Bullard and the Mika, would either one of those be particularly superior for back pocket carry, in your opinion?

Also, which would be best for my dad's J-frame?

Burns....I haven't carried back pocket since I carried a Baby Browning many years ago.

For a back-pocket carry of PM, I would look around for a holster attached to a rectangular leather backboard. Go here to the Bullard site:

Kahr P380 Pocket Holster and Mag Holder - D.M. Bullard Leather Mfg.

This is the one I use for front-pocket carry for my PM.

I would instead recommend one of this general design for back-pocket carry. Again, to the Bullard site:

PWC Holster for Kahr PM or MK - D.M. Bullard Leather Mfg.

The Pocket/wallet style holster has the rectangular leather backing that can be placed on the front or back of the holster. If placed on the front, printing is less as the backing faces the outside. If placed on the back, comfort is greater, since the backing faces the body.

There are other makers that do similar things with back-pocket holsters. I am showing the Bullard, because I am familiar with his line.

The ones I mention in my previous post do better for deep front pocket carry or jacket pocket carry as I do when I cannot belt-holster carry.

The best front pocket holster I have ever had for a J frame is the Mika.

I would think that something similar to the Bullard Pocket/Wallet holster might do all right for the J frame as well (he makes them) for rear pocket carry.

You may also want to take a look at the Guru pocket holster by www.pocketholsters.com . If you have a pocket gun, they have a pocket holster to fit with and without Crimson Trace Laser. Worthy of note is that this company is coming out with a new line which includes a flap at the top with an artificial zipper look, should the pocket be too shallow and the grip be visible. The flap covers this and the holster simply looks like a zipper wallet in your back pocket...no gun is seen. I believe this will become a new trend in pocket holsters. Check it out! They are a good company to deal with and good custom fit products. The leather print flap can be removed. I carry my PM40 in front and most rear pockets. Both are comfortable carry methods. Also check out the www.remoraholsters.com . I had looked at this product early on but decided on the Guru. Remora it can be used in pocket or IWB at a very good price. I am thinking about another holster for IWB and will probably look at this because if I get tired of IWB, I can switch it over to pocket. Lots of fun toys to choose from....haha. Note in the photo below the grip does NOT stick out beyond the back flap and the sights are also protected by the back flap. It has a slight negative in that it is open at the muzzle for lint, but this is very minor and I have not found it to be a problem.
Good luck with your selection. Please let us know what you decide on.

I'm getting a DM Bullard and a Remora. On the DM Bullard, it is side-specific. So, I can either order it for right front pocket / left rear pocket, or left front pocket, right rear pocket. I suppose, since I am right handed and will most often be carrying it in the front, that I should order right front pocket, left rear pocket. Your thoughts?

If it were possible, I would probably want to carry front right pocket / rear right pocket, which is contrary to the holster design, I assume.

I thought you guys may be interested in my version of a back pocket holster i made for my MK9. Its not the prettiest and it has been taken apart and rebuilt to fit my MK9 as it was originally designed for a Sig P238 prior.
The outer shell is very rigid and looks like a wallet with no triangle printing.
There was a slight bit of the top peaking out so i added the leather flap which further hides the gun.

Ive found a few things you guys should keep in mind when choosing any back pocket holster.
            1. A nice and rigid outer shell hides the gun the best.
            2. Having the rear sight exposed is pretty important and they make for the easiest way to draw the gun.
            3. A top flap should be level across the top and not sewn to follow the curving downward angle of the edges of the holster as this will make the draw hard to start.

I wished i would take the time to make mine as pretty as some of the ones ive seen posted as they look amazingly nice. But when your doing work for yourself and having to make changes as you go what you end up with doesn't appear to be as nice as what it could be if i was to disassemble this one and make patterns and make one from that so it was perfect. Its just not worth my time to do that as im the only one who will see it.

But i assure you this thing is the best pocket holster ive tried.

Ingenious solution to a need DasFriek. Front pocket, rear pocket the triangle printing you describe is common to both methods. Have you seen any rigid panel pocket holsters commercialy available? I am currently using a Superfly and it shifts in the pocket and triangle prints badly even with the cover flap. I wish the darn thing would stay straight in my pocket because it would print less. I'm tired of buying stuff that doesn't work the way I want it. I guess I'll have to break out the needle and thread also.

Of course im no expert, Just look at my stitching and you can see that. But thanks for the compliments as i saw the thread and the great looking professional holsters which in all honesty make mine look homemade which it is.

Post #8 Not the best design as the top of the slide and sights are not exposed to help with drawing the pistol easily.
Post #18 This one just needs a flap like is mentioned in the thread that they maker is adding and i feel it would be as good and most likley better than mine due to its professional looking work. As long as the back panel is stiff enough i think you would love that holster and design.

Those two post have pics of holsters i feel are similar to mine just missing the flap at the top which is needed on a 20% chance the gun could show threw the top of the back pocket.
What is kind of hard to see in mine is a very stiff piece of leather that is covered with the 3 smaller pieces then stitched together. Then that is the outside panel like your superfly.

I only carry mine back pocket wise and the square shape keeps it in place and the thick panel hides about 80% of the triangle that occurs as some will happen unless you make it the same thickness all the way across which i feel isn't necessary as people just dont notice it.
I do wear jeans that fit rather close fitting so that helps with shifting.
But one thing is mine is stitched with waxed thread and if you notice i try and expose it by going around the leather instead of across like most people use as the thread acts like the super fly stuff in which it is kind of sticky when its against other cloth.

My holster would be horrible in a front pocket as your hand has to go behind the holster to grab the rear sight with your thumb and then the grip with your other fingers, I don't even think its possible to draw mine from a front pocket.
But i never designed it for front pocket carry as i have too much junk in them anyhow.

A personal note, At last count i own 8 holsters that i use. But i also have three ccw guns i carry and i keep an OWB and IWB for both primary 1911's and i have three holsters just for the MK9. I don't make all my holsters, But all of them have been modified by me tho. Of the eight holsters i bought three of them but found i always needed to add reinforcing to many area's.
But i usually only spend $50 max for a holster and they are good, But im just picky.
But if i was to invest in a good $150 holster im sure it wouldn't need my additions and id be upset if it did.

The one i took the pictures of is the middle level holster.
I also have an even heavier duty one with top flap also and no printing what so ever can be seen with it, But its not as comfortable.
I also have a mini cover i use that is just a back panel lined with felt and it just slides between the gun and back pocket. Its square also but has curved edges and not as stiff leather, But is the most comfortable.

In dealing with leather like this a thread and needle wont cut it with thick and stiff leathers, But rather a Dremel and a 1/32" bit on the heavy stuff and a needle on the lite flimsy stuff still works.
Hobby Lobby sells small amounts of leather in the thin too medium thin grades.
Tandy is the place you need to go to get the thick stiff stuff.
Use waxed thread when you can or buy nylon upholstery thread when you need thin thread.

Just remember what works for me may not work for you or anyone else. Thats why ive had to learn to make my own and modify my own as i cant afford so many professional holsters. A few ill buy as i like them alot and they are exposed more like my OWB holsters, The rest i just find a design i think i would like and copy it.
Its a great money saving side hobby to guns imo.

Here is a link to a place that helps me alot when i have questions as i think some pros even stop in at times: http://www.thehighroad.org/forumdisplay.php?f=51

                  Pocket Holster for P380

FYI - the P380 fits perfectly in the Galco Horsehide pocket holster PH404 made for the Colt Pony.
