  • PM9 review (first 100 rounds)

So I shot my new PM9 the other day. Only 100 rounds for the first outing. I shot Speer Gold Dot 9mm standard pressure JHPs which may become my carry ammo.

The gun was flawless! No malfunctions of any kind with 6 round (some with Pearce grips and some without) and 7 round magazines. The gun's recoil was also far less than expected. The ergonomics were superb (no sharp edges), although I am used to shooting Glocks so I would usually present the gun a little low.

Magazines loaded and fell free very nicely. I always loaded the first round from slide stop and did not sling shot the slide. The slide stop was easy to disengage and the slide itself was easy to rack (I had heard it would be pretty hard to manipulate due to the strong recoil spring).

I did add Talon Grip's rubberized grip which I liked a lot.

Take down and cleaning were easy. All the crud just wiped off. The quality of the metalwork was superb except for a little burr that is on my extractor.

My only issue with the blaster is how the sights are set up. With the Speed Gold Dots, the gun shot 4.5 inches low at 25 yards. Windage was dead on. It seems with this particular load, the bullet strikes where the dot is if you align the tops of the front and rear sights.

I know that this is TOTALLY fine for a carry gun, but I am a USPSA shooter and VERY particular about where my guns print, so I will be getting a new (lower) front sight.

Other than that, very, very impressed!

Welcome to the forum, Nemesis. I use the +P Gold Dots, Short Barrel version. Those might print higher at 25 yards. Follow-up shots might be harder with more recoil, but I want the added fps and bullet construction for better performance from my short-barreled pistols. I can't see a difference in the 9mm bullets, but the .40 and .45 have markedly shallower, wider-at-the-bottom cavities. For .380 I have a stock of Underwood +P 90-gr Gold Dots... really stout little bullets.

My range is limited to 15 yards, which is fine for me with pistols. I carry for self defense and am happy to stay on a letter-sized sheet of paper at 15 yards... old eyes, but I shouldn't have trouble hitting a man-sized target center of mass.

I have my 5 polymer Kahrs for CCW and my 3 Glocks for home defense and heavy carry capability. I like both makes for their smooth triggers, though the Glocks hurt my trigger finger sometimes... yanking too hard?

My trigger control(?) allows me to use most of the target without only tearing out the center.

I use a thumbs-forward grip and the slide stop lever gets me on the inside of my shooting thumb. I'm not worried about it in a defensive situation, but I put 100 rounds through my CM9 yesterday and I couldn't have done it without a shooting glove - my thumb would have been too sore.

Some overlap their gun hand thumb to keep their thumb away from the lever or button. I use my support thumb to keep the gun hand one away from the lever and button... both could bite on my PM45.

          PM9 review (first 100 rounds)

Aren't they combat sights, not target. Most of my handguns POI is where the dot is, vice the 6o'clock hold of my target pistol. Regardless, totally understand the desire for a shorter front sight! Congrats on the PM9, love mine.

CountZero--I purposely stayed away from 9mm HST 147 grains because of the length of the rounds and the possibility that they would cause malfunctions. I own some of the 147 HSTs and they are REALLY long compared to the 124s. Have you had any issues with 147s?

I only have 200 rounds through my CM9, all FMJ, 50 rounds of the Winchester Ranger RA9124N (NATO) and 150 rounds of the Georgia Arms 124gr "NATO"

I haven't tried anything else yet.

And since I just lost the baseplate to my only CM9 magazine, I won't be going back to the range until I get a replacement. The baseplate didn't have a very positive lock and I thought "Man this thing isn't locked in very tight, I wonder if the baseplate will come off if I don't press the button but just slide the baseplate..."

                Pekow.. ping... ping...

I've been looking all over for it and I can't find it, so I'll have to wait until a new one arrives.

I use Fiocchi 115 gr. FMJ for practice and 147 gr. HST JHP for carry. The 115's are LONGER than the HST's. I have had no problem with either.

Very strange. The 147 HSTs that I have nearly fill the magazine completely. Odd that Fiocchi would load the 115s that long.

I can only say "been there done that". I must add that you "should" have at least 2 spare mags

Of course this is coming from the guy (me) that has 18 spare mags for his CW40
