  • Sharp edge on CM9 barrel

While cleaning my CM9 after another successful range trip, I noticed a sharp edge on the barrel. In the photo it's the very top left (not sure what you call that part of the barrel). I don't remember the edge being sharp before. It could be possible to cut your finger on it if you're not careful.

For full disclosure, I have 500 rounds through it and the 75 I shot today were flawless. Any thoughts?

Just break out a fine file or some emery cloth and knock the edge off. That area is frequently sharp. Once you smooth it off it should be fine from there forward.

While doing the initial cleaning/lubing as is suggested for new guns, I noticed that the whole top-back edge of the barrel was sharp. I used a fine ceramic file to soften the edge and haven't had any problems.

No offense, but I must say...............that barrel looks pretty beat up for 500 rds. I have more than that through my mk, and it still looks like new.............

I thought so too. The gun works fine so I'm not sure what to make of it.

What I saw on your pic was what looked like peening of the barrel here: perhaps it is just debris or lubricant.

Were that mine, I'd file off that little burr and polish the whole barrel and hood. It polishes up very easily.
Once the little burr is removed it should not return or be an issue in the future. Apparently just a little tight in that area.

Again I'd sent that picture to Kahr but I'm guessing they will say basically the same thing and not be concerned.

But they may also want to look at it and maybe do a new barrel too. Their call.

I sent an email with a picture to Kahr. Can you give me some polishing instructions? I don't own a Dremel.

A polishing wheel on a bench grinder makes very short easy work of it. A cloth with flitz or some other type of polishing compound will get it done with a little more elbow grease.

Some fine like 600 sandpaper or scotchbrite pad might help also.

You can also just polish the chamber and hood area and leave the barrel as is.

They do polish up pretty easily.

A couple more pictures after a very quick polishing with a soft cloth and some stainless steel polish. There's still an area that looks suspect at the edge of the hood but it is completely smooth there.

nice work that edge of the brrech thathas a burr is very common. Once u get that smoothed out, It will stop. to pointy on some and not alot of strength when it is like that, so therefore a burr will show up. Once fled away and smoothed out, u willbe fine..
