  • Speer Gold Dat

I had my first FTF today with my cm9.
I shot 400 rounds through my kahr cm9 (all FMJ from freedommunitions), and I had no ftf/fte. It ran flawlessly... Then I started shooting speer gold dot jhp and the first round fired... second round ftf. I've attached a picture of what it looked like at the range. Should I polish my feed ramp or go for hornady defense 9mm which has that red filling to act like a FMJ? I'm not giving up on this gun.

I would maybe try another round if yours doesnt like the speer. I have been using hornady critical duty and it works ok in my cm9. I use gold dot in my cm45 and cw45.

Welcome to the forum by the way.
The only thing better than having all the guns and ammo you'd ever need would be being able to shoot it all off the back porch.

Generally people have not had trouble with Gold Dots in their CM9. It runs fine in mine. You might also try Federal HST.

Aaaa, could that be a limp wrist issue. Happens to even skilled marksman with small lite pistol with hotter ammo over light plinker loads. . The round failed to chamber and that can be a recoil control issue. Big difference in performance between the 2 rounds . Gold dots have always been my go to bullet for defense needs.

Between my PM & CM I've shot probably 40 different brands including GD's without issue.

I haven't tried Speer GD with my PM9, but mine likes Federal 124gr HST (Std. pressure) and Cor-Bon 115gr DPX +P. It also likes Barnes 115gr XPD +P.

I polished the feed ramp of mine with wet/dry sandpaper from #800 up to #3000. It has been eating everything I fed so far. You probably want to polish yours as well to see if it makes any difference.

I thought that I had made a mistake once, but I was wrong. I can't think of a single gun that I have ever owned that didn't experience at least one misfeed at some point in it's life. Some were due to the ammo, the gun, or plain old fashioned operator error. I believe that's why the tap rack drill was invented. Find a combinations that the gun likes and shoot that fokker like you stole it.

A lot of good rounds in 9mm. Federal HST has a better performance reputation in Short Barrel than standard Gold Dot. HST feeds fine in my CM9. Hornady has reputation of reliable feeding in KAHR short barrels.

Gold Dots feed well in my CM9 , I just don't like the performance of them in the short barrel. The GD's work fine in the CW9 with a longer barrel YMMV

WWB 115 grain jhp perform well in a short barrel and around $20/50
