  • CM9 vs Taurus TCP vs Diamondback db9

Anyone own(ed) these pistols that can post a picture of the size difference? I'm thinking about replacing my TCP with a pocket 9mm, but not if there's a huge size difference. I'm kind of leaning towards the CM9 though..

I think quality matters a lot more than size. Your life depends on it. The latter two are rather questionable when it comes to quality.

My Taurus TCP has been flawless for me, but I'm only one data point vs the condemning blanket statement made by Pointblank.

I did not like the fit, finish, feel of either the DB380 or the DB9 so as a result I do not own one.

Here's a pic of my PM9 and TCP, wish I had a pic after I put a CT laser on the PM9 but this should give you an idea. I can take other pics like width comparison if you'd like, but not right now, I should be asleep.

(this is also the wrong forum, there's a PM/CM forum since you're asking about the CM and not the CW)

Both quality and size matter to me. I find the quality of my TCP to be just fine. Never had a problem with it, and it shoots everything. I have not owned or fired the db9, but I hear the current models are just fine. I found a lot of negative threads on other forums and this one about the cm9, but I also found a lot of good ones. The only way I'm going to find out in the particular firearm I purchase has questionable quality and if I can depend my life on it is if I take it to the range.

Thanks for the pics! Not too much of a size difference.

Opps... I didn't realize I posted in the wrong forum.. Hopefully a mod see this and can move it for me?

There isn't much of a meaningful size difference, weight is the most noticeable difference in carry.
The TCP comes in about 12oz loaded and the CM9 sits around 16oz loaded. On the one hand, it's only 4oz, but on the other hand, that's 1/4 lb.

Do you prefer to carry one over the other?

My mistake, the CM9 is actually closer to 19oz with ammo, the 16oz number was for gun and empty mag.

Naturally I prefer carrying the TCP as it is noticeably lighter and carries amazingly easily IWB with the clipdraw.

However, I got the PM9 for winter carry because hanging out on the internet will make you lose faith in the 380 in a hurry. Inside a coat pocket, the differences are not easily discernible whereas IWB you may notice the extra weight more readily.

I normally carry the M&P shield, but was looking for a deep concealment, go anywhere pistol in 9mm for occasions where it must not be seen. I just don't like the cost and scarcity of 380 ammo; otherwise, I'd have no problem carrying it.

                    This wasn't on your list but a S&W j-frame is 16 oz. loaded with 5 rounds of 38 special +p. I retired my .380 when j got the j-frame
The only thing better than having all the guns and ammo you'd ever need would be being able to shoot it all off the back porch.

You are right about the harder hitting S&W 38 spl +P, however they tend to be much more difficult to shoot accurately due to the extremely short sighting radius and terrible sites. I have one which had a horrible, heavy double action trigger pull. I had the gunsmith change the factory spring kit for a S&W after market one which helped out immensely.
If I had to carry a .380 I'd go with the P.380 or the very nice Sig P238.

I bought my CM9 to replace my DB9. The DB9 is considerably smaller, lighter and easier to carry. If the DB9 was more reliable I would be carrying it. I would guess that while shooting HST or gold dot it was around %90 reliable on the second shot *if* you download the mag by one. Certainly not good enough for me to consider it for EDC. Never had an issue with ball though.

My CM9 OTH has had no problems feeding whatever I've fed it.

The DB9 is the perfect size for me to pocket carry. The CM9 is a bit large but doable. Here's a couple pics comparing the two. (not mine):

Taurus quality control has been spotty at best for many years. I wouldn't risk my life on one. It's your life, you make the decision.

I've always been curious about Diamond Back and Taurus, not enough to buy their guns though. Didn't DB lose a lawsuit to Kahr for swiping their designs and not paying royalties?

Thickness matters in a pocket to me. I found the CM9 too thick for most pockets. The cw380 fits just right, as does my LCP. I don't have experience with the others.
