  • CM9 Didn't Perform Today

I've had my CM9 for a few months, and up until now have been very happy with it. It has about 400 trouble free rounds through it. That all changed on the range today. I loaded all my magazines with WWB, which has always worked flawlessly in the past. Locked the slide to the rear and inserted the first mag, released the slide lock, aimed in, pulled the trigger and CLICK! The trigger pulled as normal but the pistol didn't fire. I dropped the mag and checked the chamber. There was a round in the camber. I ejected it and reinserted the mag, released the slide release, sighted in and CLICK again. This happened with each and every magazine. I disassembled the weapon and didn't notice anything wrong. After reassembling the pistol the problem persisted. I disassembled it again when I got home and re-cleaned it. However since the pistol seems to work fine when dry fired there is no way to tell if it's functioning properly unless it is actually being fired. I'm planning one more trip to the range before calling Kahr and was hoping for some advice from the more seasoned here.
What should I be looking for here?
    Thanks in advance.

It never fired at all? Broken firing pin maybe? Try inserting a pencil into the barrel then dry firing it. Please make sure the gun is empty. The pencil should shoot out when you pull the trigger if the pin is OK.

Remove the slide - push the striker safety block in - and push the striker backwards and forwards - Does it move freely?
Does the striker pin extend out beyond the breech face when pushed fully forward?

        Try different ammo.

What did the back of the rounds look like? Any marks on the primer?

              Operator Error.
I went back through everything today. The pistol is fine. It was ammo (and head-space and timing) related. Suffice it to say that when one is in a hurry leaving the range (as I was the last time I was there before yesterday) you gotta be careful to not throw your .380 ammo in the box with the 9mm. Going back out tomorrow to be sure that was the problem.

It's not the first or the last time someone put the wrong ammo in a gun. Glad no one got hurt. Let us know how it eats 9mm, next time.

That you did sir.....I once accidentally verified that my XD-S in .45ACP would feed/fire/extract/eject .45GAP (well, at least three rounds of it)
I'm guessing the GAP head spaced on the extractor

I've seen a lot of stupid in my day but this isn't one of them. Anybody could get 380 and 9 mixed up. Hear all the time of folks putting 20 ga shells in their 12, sometimes with bad results when it goes in far enough to get a 12 behind it.
Now that I kind of think is negligent but it happen all the time even with color coded hulls too.

I used to sort our dept brass cause we get a bit more money if it's sorted, dang tough dealing with 380, 9, 40 etc. I really like that we carry 45's now, pretty easy to pick out of the mess. Don't miss the 380 and 9 at all.

Crap I was thinking a 380/9mm mixup but didn't want to insult anybody or look foolish to even suggest it.

Happens! Now you know, and aside from the mental distress, you're better off for knowin'!

Yes, probably won't make that mistake again! Was on the range with both Kahrs (CW380 and CM9) before Christmas. Got running late and the wrong stuff got in the wrong box Yesterday it got into the wrong mags as a result. Was driving me crazy because both pistols have been flawless out of the box. Can count on one hand how many issues that I've had with both of them, all of which occurred early into the 200 round break in period. To top everything else off, I was using some cheap 380 ammo I recently picked up at Wally World in the .380 (Perfecta) which was the first ammo that the .380 didn't like. So, overall it was a less than perfect day on the range. Going back tomorrow to hopefully make it right.

I have actually loaded .40 S&W into my CM9 magazines at the range and only noticed after the 5 round was loaded. I couldn't believe they fit so easily and thanked God I hadn't tried to fire the gun before double checking.
