  • Got out the rotary tool and some polish...

Sorry for the bad photo. I went and polished the barrel and slide stop lever on my CM9.

I didn't get a good photo of it specifically but you can see the barrel and how it compares to the normal dull color of the trigger below. I'm going to disassemble the trigger group and polish the trigger too... eventually. Barrel and slide stop lever are quick/easy things to remove. Trigger requires more time.

I prefer the frosted appearance because it doesn't reflect sunlight as badly, but to each his own. You did a nice job.

I polish mine like that also, I was surprised how easy the barrel and hood polished up. Looks good.

The frame and slide are a whole different story. HARD. I wasn't seeking a mirror finish like that just shinier, I got shiny but it was tough.

What's the best way to turn my silver CM9 slide black? Easy? Durable? Worthwhile?

What about cold-blue? I've touched up a lot of my other firearms with cold blue and it did a fairly decent job.

Cold blue can work well sometimes, it's doesn't work on stainless though, at least it never has for me.

I've had mixed success with it, done lots of touchups on already blued guns and cold blued a whole rifle once.

I sometimes use liquid and then gel and alternate, basically throw everything I got at it to get what I want.

Thanks everyone. I think I might like the way it looks now that I have had it for a while. But the all-black version of anything is cooler, right? And, I am sorry about hijacking the thread, OP.

I always polish the barrel on my 9's. It helps differentiate between my 40's. Some would say you are removing the lubricating layer. I think the polished barrel makes for easier cleaning as grit and grime are more easily removed.

When both my CW9 and CM9 were new I took some Flitz and rotary tool to polish up the feed ramp and just didn't stop til I also had the slide, barrel, and slide stop lever glistening. Touched them all up a couple times, but got tired of the upkeep. Now I just hit the feed ramp with a rag to keep it lustrous.
