CM9 locked up twice at range

My CM9 misbehaved at the range today. The recoil spring came out the front in between the recoil assembly and the hole in the slide. The result was that the spring couldn't compress and the slide couldn't cycle.

I disassembled the pistol and was able to remove the recoil spring assembly and then reassemble the pistol. It did the same thing about half a magazine later. I figured I would call it a day at that point.

The good news is that the Lakeline follower I was testing worked great! I was able to slingshot just fine, no feeding or slide locking problems.

Anyone else have this problem and/or know a solution. I am inclined to replace the spring with a Wolff kit and try again, but wanted to see if this is a known issue.

Position the loose end of the spring upwards toward the sight when you assemble. That usually prevents it from trying to sneak out like that.

If I'm thinking right, I'm pretty sure the CM is the same spring setup as my PM45 or the 9's etc.

This hasn't come up in a really long time, used to be quite a common occurrence.

I've seen where some folks have posted about the spring coming out as you describe.
The fix: position the end/tip of the spring at 12 o'clock (up towards the barrel) when installing the recoil spring assembly. If you like you can also open up that last coil a little.

Good info. Checked mine and it was at 3 o'clock. reassembled at 12 o'clock. Kahr should make the spring closed end for easy installation.

I'm sure there is a reason but I still wonder why one end of the spring is open. Inquiring minds would like to know. I have always positioned mine at 12:00 and never had a problem.
