  • Mag won't drop...Kahr let me down

I've had my PM9 for almost a year now and the magazine would never "eject" as it should. I have to pull it out. It drops about 1/2" to an inch and sticks. Sent it into Kahr (my dime), got it back and it is still the same as when I sent it in.

I will be taking a 2 day handgun defense course in Oct. and I want to take an EDC that I can change mags quickly, like you're supposed to be able to.

Personally, I'm not impressed with Kahr's CS. I never did get through to a live human, only an assinine recording loop that ran you in circles. I communicated by email and got an RMA# and shipping instructions. I did get a call from someone the next day. Told him I'd already sent it in. Complained about the $75 shipping but got no help from him. I also included a letter with problem explanation and complaint for payin my own freight to no avail.

I'm quite disappointed and am considering moving on to another choice in a compact EDC. For the $$$ I paid for this gun one would expect something as simple as a quick and efficient mag change not too much to ask.

Sorry if this report hurts ayone's feelings, that's certainly not my intention. I don't drink anyone's Kool-Aid. Not Glocks, Sigs, etc. I just feel like I've been done wrong by Kahr. Simple as that. The PM9 really fits the bill for what I'm looking for in a compact EDC. But I won't compromise performance in any facet of a self defense gun.

Based on what you saw with your gun, what do you think the problem is? Have you tried other mags? Is there something protruding into the mag well? Is the mag release not opening all the way? Shouldn't be hard to fix.

I have 3 6rd and 2 7rd mags all purchased from Kahr shop. Problem the same with all. You'd think it would be easy to fix for someone who is a gunsmith, which I'm not. Like I said in original post, I sent in to Kahr and got it back with no resolution to the problem...

First step is going to be identifying the culprit. Are their any signs of drag marks or scrapes on the mags? This will help you figure out where the issues is. You could color one of the mags with a sharpie then put it in and out a few times. That should show the wear spot pretty quick.

Yes, there are drag marks that correspond to the 2 raised parallel lines on each side of the mag well.

I tested a PM40 at a local GS and it shot it's mag out, like it's supposed to. I just wish my PM9 would do that and I'd be a happy camper...

              Feeling a little better...

Thanks Frank for your very good advice. Called Kahr this morning and chose the sales prompt that you suggested in your PM instead of technical support.

I spoke to a live person (yeah!) and after explaining my situation I was transferred to Ian (I've seen his name before with always positive comments). He put me on hold and went to discuss the problem w/the gunsmith who worked on my gun. He gave me an RMA# and is sending a shipping label via email and giving my case to a different gunsmith.

So, my PM9 is off to Kahr again. I love this gun. I carry almost all the time in a DeSantis Nemesis in my right front pocket. Here's hoping for a positive outcome. My LCP will have to stand in for my PM9 in the interim. Thanks again Frank!

I thought customer service rep Ian Burr had left Kahr a month ago. Is this another Ian or the same guy?

My PM9 is from June 2009. My mags drop. I have read on this forum that some PMs made later did not drop the mags. This is not a new issue, and you are not the only one. You may have to go back several pages under the PM thread or the Kahr tech thread on this forum. This has been discussed. Since my mags drop, I did not pay much attention to what was said.

My P380 mags... the old ones, drop freely, but the two most recent don't. They just barely protrude. I checked them all with a dial caliper and don't see much difference, but those raised "rails" in the mag well are definitely dragging on the new magazines. There are marks from those top to bottom on the sides of the newer magazines.
I hope they start dropping with range use. I'm only carrying with the ones that drop freely. I don't want to be picking at the 1/8" protrusion if I'm in a hurry.

mine don't drop free, but I don't find it to be a problem. If I ever need a quick change of mags, I must not be in the right place to begin with. At that point I will throw my gun at the perp and run like hell.

Try to run away from the perp to his right. it will be harder for him to track you with his pistol held in the "Gangsta Mode"... horizontally.
Ya gotta think of these things in advance. That's the fallacy of TV and movie room entry procedures with the barrel of the gun in the air. It's easier to see the target and bring the gun to bear on the rise... AND you might want to chamber a round before you catch up with the perp... not for emphasis after capture.
Sorry... I just get carried away.

It may not cure the mag problem, but polishing the mag at least along the slide rail marks help. I discovered my primary cause was the mags hanging a bit on the slide release. Just for kicks, try to push the slide release as far in as possible and see it it drops. The mag lips spread at the top just enough to be pesky passing the release.

My PM9 mags dont drop free either. They pop 1/2 inch out and I have to pull the rest of the way. It's annoying, but I deal with it. It's a far cry from my Sig 220. That Sig literally shoots the mag out of the mag well! I love that. I'll be following this thread for more ideas. Thanks guys!

My mags drop free in my PM40, CW40 and they did in my long gone CW9.

My CW9 drops free but the PM9 does not. It looks to me that the mag is dragging on the front part of the magazine against the inside of the grip. Doesn't matter to me however as I like the fact that the mag won't end up falling out of my gun in my pocket.

I apparently don't go to the same kind of places ya'll do as I can't in my worst nightmare imagine a situation that would require a reload. If seven rounds of 9mm won't do the job, I've REALLY screwed up bigtime!

Funny thing is most scumbags will crap themselves if they see an obviously prepared goodguy and after messing themselves will run like hell. If he stands his ground I have the right to use lethal force and I practice enough (and cheat by using a CT Laser) to know that he's close enough for me to feel I have to defend myself with lethal force and I will hit my target-at least twice-before waiting for a response. If he continues to stand or hold his weapon, I will continue to fire until he does not. If that doesn't work, I will run like hell!!!!
