    PM45 Test Drive

    First of all, thank you to the forum members for posting great advice on breaking in a new Kahr! Following the posted advice, I thoroughly cleaned/lubed the gun and racked the slide about 1200 times before going to the local indoor range. My wife and I put 50 rounds through our new PM45 without any issues. We used American Eagle 230 gr ammo. This afternoon's session really allayed my concerns about the PM45's reliability, albeit a brief test. I've been debating this purchase for 2 years looking at many different options because of reliability concerns but always came back to the Kahr as my first choice because of size, how it felt in my hand and a very smooth trigger. At this point, I cannot be happier about my choice. Now it is a matter of breaking in the gun with a few hundred more rounds to fully gauge it's reliability and just get better with it.

    I'm new to the forum and truly appreciate everyone's great insight and advice on these great handguns. Now I just need to figure out which holster to use and I've been searching this site for that information.

      John, lots of guys here to help ya and your gonna love that PM45. Mine is a constant companion and probably the only reason I'm fearless although it's mostly just an act.

      Mine mostly rides in a Galco ankle holster but I have a couple belt rigs too.

        Welcome to the forum from central Ohio and congrats on the purchase of a fine pistol.

          Welcome to the forum. I really like my pm45. My edc for over a year now.
          I have a couple of iwb holsters . I have an Ace , which is leather and real thin and light. I use it mostly in the summer. I got a another one that is what I use in the colder months. Got it from jeffery custom leather.
          Many great holster makers out there. You'll just have to look at a bunch and decide.

            American Eagle had a recall on some of their ,45 ammo. You might check the lot number.

            Federal and American Eagle issue safety warning

            According to Federal, "certain lots of recently manufactured .45 Auto ammunition may contain an incorrect propellant charge." Gun owners need to realize that using ammunition from certain lots "may result in firearm damage and possible serious injury."

            Those lot numbers are as follows:

            * American Eagle (AE45A, AE45N1, AE45A250)
            * Champion (WM5233)
            * GoldMedal (GM45B)
            * Hi-Shok (45C, 45D)
            * Federal Personal Defense (C45C, C45D).

              Thanks to everyone for the warm welcome! I look forward to participating with other forum members, although my level of knowledge is far below most of the information I have read over the past couple of months, so I will be cautious in my postings. I will always assume positive intent from other forum members. Thanks to thetmanski for the info on the recalled ammunition. Fortunately, none of my ammo is part of the recall.
              I just got finished cleaning my pistols from yesterday's session. I have a Wilson 1911, Sig p220 and now my PM45. Quite a contrast in size and shooting characteristics. Each is excellent for it's intended purpose. The PM45 being the newest is especially fun...so small and powerful! I did notice after the shooting session yesterday, my trigger finger was sore due to a sharp point on the bottom right side of the trigger. I guess I should not be so low on the trigger to allow the sharp corner to dig into my finger. I did round off that point a bit and I will make an effort to keep my finger a bit higher. I always use the tip of my finger for increased sensitivity. Sounds like an add for a non-shooting related product! Anyone else have the same issue... about the first part of my statement?
              Holsters? Never really thought about an ankle holster. It certainly avoids jamming something into my already too tight pants! I was thinking about an IWB holsters in no particular order:
              - Crossbreed
              - Highnoon
              - Rusty Sherrick (he is local to my Central PA area and he made my 1911 holster)
              Sights? I just have the normal Kahr sights so no night sights. You will probably be hearing from me on this topic over the next few weeks, so you have been warned.
              Once again, thanks for your help and support. I really enjoy shooting sports and getting this PM45 has really motivated me to improve my skill level. It is an incredible level of responsibility to carry a concealed weapon.

                After my first time shooting my K40 I noticed the trigger had sharp corners at the bottom..I also smoothed them down some using sand paper and that seemed to cure it.

                I think almost everyone is in search of that perfect holster but of the ones you mentioned the Crossbreed is highly regarded by many people, myself included. I currently have one for a Sig and have used it for about a year and really like it. I also just bought one for my Kahr last week and am waiting for it to get here.

                  Welcome!

                  I've got a little over 3500 rounds through a PM45 in the last 2 1/2 years. It's a great little pistol.

                  Mine normally rides in a Crossbreed supertuck, and I am very happy with that holster. For deep concealment I use a Smartcarry pouch. There's a ton of good options out there, so have fun shopping!
