7 round magazine failure to feed

Hey guys, I am wondering if you all are having this issue.

We got my wife a PM9. She shot 300 flawless rounds through it in a sitting to break it in.

We bought some federal ball ammo to shoot last night, and some 147gr winchester law enforcement ammo.

When we shot any ammo through the 7 round magazine, the second or third round always failed to feed.

We shot it with one in the chamber, plus a full mag, just a full mag, always used the slide lock release, and used both mags.

Weapon was cleaned and lightly oiled after the first time she shot.

The 6 round mag shot 100%, and was wonderful. During the 300 round break in, the 7 round mag shot just fine. Now it has issues. We rapid fired with the 6 round mag, sling shotted it, +1'd it, no FTF, perfect, except it won't drop, and it's going back to Kahr tuesday.

take that magazine apart and check to see if the follower cold be cracked.

Look at that follower also and see if there could be some rub marks on it where it is coming up in the magazine and around rounds 2 to 3 that follower is coming close and maybe into contact witht he magazine rleease button, causing it to hang up a tad. This has been know to happen. What you can do is also excnange followers from your 6 round into ther 7 round and retest and also the 7 mag follower in teh 6 round and retest.

My bet is that this follower is rubbing on that magazine catch, possable due to the extended magazine and different grip on it. Not that it shoulddo that but if it does, call kahr and explain what is happening and they will send you a new follower or even ask to hav ethe 7 round magazine back. If the gun works perfect witht he 6 round mag and not the 7 round mag, then it has to be magazine related.

Have u tried doing any outside polishing on the 6 round magazine, with some nice car wax. somehave tried that it it worked ok then. . It is magaazine related with the magazine not dropping and if you send back the 6 round they will replace it with another. Not sure it is necessary to send the gun back but that is your choice. If kahr is going to pick up the tab, then an easier choice to make to. Mine in my PM9 has never dropped, any of my 3 6 round mags. really never bothered me as I don't carry a spare magazine. and for me if I can't do it in 7 rounds, I am probably dead anyways..

One of my two glock G19 magazines will not drop cleanley either.

I would take that mag apart and lightly sand the sides of the follower. I would check for burs since they seem to be failing at that specific spot.

I had the same problem with my PM 40. I sent the extended magazine back to Kahr and requested they trade it out for a flush fit magazine (which is what I wanted anyway). They did no problem, and I have run trouble free since.

I had similar issues with the extended mag on my PM9, mostly fail to feed and stovepipes, so I quit using it and got a second standard magazine. For magazine extraction issues if found a lot of gunk inside the magwell near the actuator for the mag release. Cleaned it with a small toothbrush, and keep it clean. Also used a paste floor wax on the exterior of the mags themselves and the darn things just fly out now. You may notice some streaks on the mags which show where the friction is occurring and they may be an indication that its time to re-wax.

I have always felt that the extended magazines in the PM were a painin the ass and the most butt ugly magazine I have ever seen. I haven't used mine in over 3 years+. I hate it, it hates me, so we just stay away from each other..

Have never had an issue with 7 rounders whether it's the CW9 mag or the PM9 with the plastic wrap-around baseplate. As a matter of fact, I carry it everyday with the 7 rounder in for added capacity - 8 total.

I've also swapped flat stainless plates with plastic flat with wrap-around plastic with no effects on performance.

Mag must be dented, restricting follower movement some. Might be inconspicuous. Look closely and hit the inside of the magazine with fine steel wool. One drop on a hard surface with a loadful of rounds will ding it possibly.

I have experienced FTF on the 1st round out of full ext mag. Never a problem with the flush 5 rounders, PM40. Just put the 6 rounders in a drawer.

I had some similar issues with my 7rd mag. Also, when stored in a mag pouch, the mag would release a round or 2 during the course of a day.

The mag hadn't been used that much, but I replaced the mag spring with a Wolff 5% XP mag springs ( http://www.gunsprings.com/index.cfm?...D=1&mID=29#191 ) and have had no further issues of any kind with the 7rd mag.
