  • more mag questions....

Ok, Kahr sent back us 2 new mags today. They took the 7 rounder, traded for a 6 rounder, both are 9-6 mags.

Both of them drop about 1.5 inches now, which is what they are supposed to do, not all the way free.

The one we bought online drops completely free.

The 2 new mags feel more rough, and I think I need to sand them, and put some kind of paste you all keep talking about.

Here is a new thing though; with the two they sent, the mag release is very hard to press. With the one I got online, it's easy to press.

I think the drop issue has to do with this. What would cause this? What can I do to fix it at home?

    Thanks.

I'm not sure why they would drop differently than the one you bought online. I bought a second 7 rounder to go with the 6 and 7 rounders that came with the gun. I took all of them apart, and polished them on my buffing wheel at work. Once they were shiny, I used some Maguires liquid car wax on the outside. Now, all three drop clear of the mag well when I press the mag release.

After polishing, don't forget to clean the inside of the mags to remove any polish or debris from the polishing process.

I'd post a picture, but I don't know that is necessary. Picture your dull mags looking all shiny... that's what mine look like.

There are ribs that are molded into the magazine well and that is what is causing the mags to not drop free. As for the release, that may have something to do with how and where they mate together. You could take the release out (I hear tale that it's easy), and gently polish around it, and file the shelf that the mag seats that would be all I could think of.

Ok, i smoothed the mags out. They are nice and shiny, reassembled them.

When the weapon is in battery, they drop free. When the slid is locked back, they don't drop, at all. As in half the time, you press the mag release button, the mags do not budge.

The mag I got online, continues to drop free.

What could have happened when I sanded them, and polished them?

EDIT: The mag drops fine when it's empty, it only has issues dropping of only one round is left in magazine, and the slide is locked back, like if it jams. All other times, these mags drop just fine.

maybe the last round in the magazine moved forward a bit and is catching something preventing it to drop free.

slave u didn't do anything wrong when you sanded and polished that magazine. It just ain't gonna work, some have good success in doing what you did, in ur case itd idn't work. when you press the mag button, do they not drop maybe a half inch. that is all mine ever did since the day I got them.I kinda like it that way, as I don't carry a spare magazine and I don't want to accidently hit the mag release button and have the magazine fly all over hell either.

How can the magazinebelocked back with only one round still in the magazine? Unlessyour manualy locking the slide back, other wise it should cycle every round through and then with no rounds left, it should lock open. Your presenting a scenerio of trying to drop free the magazine when locked open with one round still in the magaziine that really should not even be happening. If I read ur editedmessagecorrectly..

To help identify where it is hanging, I suggest you remove the slide then insert a full mag slowly while shining a light from the top. You should see if it is the mag hanging on the mag release as mine did or the mag well rails.

Another quick thing is to push in the mag release as far and hard as you can as see if it drops. That was my first clue it was the release dragging on the mag.

Oh yeah, I was trying to simulate a jam, where you may have to drop the mag.

See, I can't get the damn thing to jam when it is shot! We limp wristed it today, side fired it, rapid fired it, sling shotted it, nothing worked! This little damn gun makes me want to take it from the wife and make her get something else!

It's a shamed, I have to artificailly create jam conditions in order to test it The slide locks back each and every time, it eats any and all ammo we feed, hell, I even stopped cleaning it for a bit, and am shooting it dirty. The damn thing still shoots.

My next idea is to go buy 500 rounds, get 5 friends, go to the range and just feed it rounds until we puke, I suspect it will win.

its hell ain't it when one gets such a POS PM9 like that. I have one about the same. It is OVER 4 YEARS OLD, damn POS gun has over 30,000 rounds through it and it is the most irritating gun I have ever owned. It just simply goes bang every damn time,no matter what ammo I put in it the damn gun just goes bang. I hate to send it back and have kahr to fix it even for I think they will fokk it up even more, so I will probably keep the POS gun so that it doesnt hurt anyone else. U can't trust these damn kahrs. I can't even get the damn slide to lock back prematurely even.any advice from this forum would sure be of some help here..

Well, I don't know, Jocko, but maybe they can fix the sights so you can shoot what you're aiming at. After 30K rounds you should at least hit that side of the barn once in a while.

The trick to hitting the barn, is to get INSIDE the barn. Then if you miss, you hit the floor.

As dumb and simple as this may sound I have had magazine issues dropping free with my MK or K9 and a simple one eighth rotation untightening of the grip screws has helped out immensely.

I assumed he was talking about a PM but reading back I'm not certain what gun we're talking about.

If it is a MK or K your absolutely right. Often times a small rubber o ring under the grip screw solves that issue. It's also easily detected by the scratches up and down the side of your mags.

I've made grips and forgot to cut the clearance for the right side for the mag release. Put it all together, stuff a magazine and no getting it out till I take the right side grip off. Awkward.

You just make the "T" signal for timeout while you fix that in a gunfight... right?

Like getting your gun out of the lock box, taking the lock off, assembling it, getting the ammo out of a separate locked cabinet and then loading it before the noises that awoke you turn into BG's busting through the bedroom door!
