  • CM9 great with 6 rd mag, not so with 7 rd mag

I posted some of this in another thread:

Found a CM9 last weekend at the gun show; I also bought two new 7 rd mags with the added plastic cap to fill the gap in the CM9, my guess is these are also used with the PM9.

When I went to the range first few mags fired without issue; then I started having nose dives of the rounds and they would not feed. What I found is this was only happining with the 7 rd mags.

My thougt is these mags may not be new (they look new) but have been left loaded for a long time and the mag spring is weak.....what do you think?? I ordered some new Wolf mag springs to try but wanted to know if anyone else has had this issue with weak mag springs?

Are they factory kahr mags? If not, there is your problem.

If they are factory mags, they may have dinged or misaligned lips or need new springs.

Let us know what happens after the new springs arrive..

It's also possible your magazine catch is catching the followers as they move upward. Sanding a little material off the follower to provide clearance usually solves that issue, at least for me.

If it is always the the second or third round that nose dives you will notice that's when the follow crosses the notch in the magazine body into which the catch latches. That would clinch the need to file or sand of some plastic there.

Disclaimer: All of my mags have needed this modificaiton, so I might be prejudiced.
It would be so nice if something made sense for a change.

I've heard similar complaints regarding the PM9 and the 7 rounders. That's why I ordered mine with all 6 round mags. They shipped mine with three 6's and one 7 which I put away and will never use. If anyone wants it, PM me and you can have it.

I bought my PM9 that came with a 6-round and 7-round. No issues with either. Then I ordered 2x 7-round and 2x 6-round mags. Got those, and they all work perfectly. Not sure why the fear-mongering over the 7-rounders.

doubt if they are old mag, and leaving them loaded will not hurt the magazine springs. They all will take a pre-designed set, so IMO and from reading alot on this fourm, the 7 round mag in the PM9 and probalby the cm9 to just give feed issues. We think the reason is that that extension allows one to grip that lower part of the magazine n such a way that it distorts the angle of attack for that round to get into the chamber. Seem the flush fit magas work perfect and it us usually the 7 round mags. For me I also think they are the most butt ugly magazines I have ever seen. I never use mine but when the gun was new and I tried my 7 rounder it worked ok, Ijust hated it and never used it again. Some don't have any issues and I attribute tht to more of a hand position than anything else. I think that person who has no issues could take any of the other people's magazines that are having issues and it will work. It is all about grip on that magazine and I know of no cure for it if ur havng issues, other than experimeting with ur grip. You bought the gun for concealability, so buy another flush fit mag and forget about that 7 rounder. If the 7 rounder meant so much to you, one should have considered the cw9 then. Just my 2 cents.

to test out what I have said above, try the 7 round mag and just shoot it if u can without touching that lower extended portion of the magazine to see if it does OK. I serioulsly doubt if your intentions was to carry the gun with that 7 round magazine in it anyways and you will shoot differently with the 7 round mag in thegun vs. the flush fit 6 round mag, and again it is all about grip.

I had issues with my PM9 7 rounder during break-in. Kahr allowed me to send in the 7 rounder in exchange for a six rounder. Six rounder mags have been without issue.

Thanks for all the feedback from all. These 7 rd mags are Kahr items.

I will start with the new springs since I have ordered them. If the problem is still there I will check the follower for interference and sand a bit to relieve the interference; if the problem is still there I will try shooting without placing my finger on the 7rd mag. But thanks to you guys I have a plan of action.

If all this fails I will get some more 6rd mags and just move on. I can take the funky plactic gap filler of the 7rd mags and use a standard cap and use them with my CW9... I could pull the springs out of some of my CW9 mags and try them in these balky PM9 mags..... I am going to stick to the plan and wait for the new springs to show up.

The CM9 has been great after about 150 rds down range.

                    thanks

Based on my experience with my PM9, if all your 7-round mags don't work with your PM9, either the gun is broken or the mags are broken. They should work, period!

they should but many don't perform well in the PM9 and I see no reason why they perform any better in the cm9. I myself feel it is the magazine angle being distorted by ones grip and we all tend to grip alittle different. I think if u persist workng withthe 7 rounder, it seems some do work themselves out of the issues to. that cold also be ones griphas changed to accomadate this longer magazine. I personally would not trust one in my PM9 or cm9. YMMV..

I got something new to add here. I went back to the range with my new CM9 and took two of my CW9 mags with me.

Went through 60 rds, ten strings, I only loaded 6 rds in each mag.
Not one failure; all went great.

So I am more sure then ever that the issue is with the mags I picked up at the gun show. :31:

I will let you guys know how it goes once I change out the mag springs with the new Wolf springs.

for some reason I have read that quite a few rtimes that loading one shy in the 7 runder produces perfect results. Why that is , I cannot explain.. Hell maybe the 7 round magazine actually thinks it is a real 6 rounder..
