Still Another Boring CM9 Report

Ordered the CM9 from Bud's last weekend, and it arrived on Thursday. Cleaned it up last night, and I finally got to the range today. ZERO problems -- I ran about 100 rounds thru it, consisting of 115 and 124 grain FMJs and 115 gr JHPs. No drama; the pistols ran perfectly -- I didn't shoot it particularly well, but that is another issue.

The pistol is not as finely machined as my PM40, but the 9MM seems to run better in a pistol this size. I am getting ready to clean it and will look for any wear or problems, but I am really not expecting to find anything. Next step is to arrange a side by side shooting comparison with a buddies' PM9.

Admittedly, we have no 9mm firearms in our family but, it's clear that caliber is the sweet spot for the Kahr design. Enjoy!

I hope my first time out with my CM9 is just as boring. I guess I'll get it next week sometime.
BTW: How is the recoil on such a little pistol??? Not that I'm concerned, I've fired all kinds of magnum revolvers and 10mm Glocks. I'm just curious how the kick is in a 14oz pistol.

I did not find the recoil at all objectionable - the gun seems to twist in my grip a little, but nothing significant. I was using standard power loads, rather than "hot"defense loads, so we'll see how that goes next time. Of course, my frame of reference is my PM40, which is a bear and has taken quite a while to get used to.

I finished cleaning the CM9, and did not find anything that concerned me. The action has smoothed up considerably from the frist range trip.

The CM9 has very little recoil....just slightly more than a full sized 9mm.

I had a Kel-tec PF9 for a while, that gun has a lot of muzzle flip. Close to firing a .357 snubby.

no reason why the maching is not as good as ur PM40. They didn't cut quality corners in maching the slide, just left off some bells and whistles. Internals are the same as ur buddies PM9, lower section is exactly the same,he could put his PM9 slide on your grip and vice versa. the quality is certainly tere, maybe u got one that past some quality control inspections and the guy blinked kwhen it went buy.

Congrats on the CM9 Charlie, Any chance when you do your side by side with your buddies PM9 of comparing the two shooting the same ammo through a chronograph?
I would like to see the results of the poly vs standard barrels.

I bet ucan take 5 poly barrels in the same gun and they will chrono different with the same ammo andlikewise with the regulaar rifled barrels. It is a perk by kahr that we are paying for ande basically IMO not needed in these small guns. Just my 2 cents,. I really put no credibility behind some barrel tests, ammo as we all know can be different in round1 of a new box and round 50.

+1 In an earlier post here somewhere, one of the forum contributors has already compared the velocities from their conventional and polygonal barrels. As I recall, they were very close. He found that the conventional rifling yielded the very slightly higher velocities on average, which was a surprise to me.

Still, the polygonal barrel in my PM40 is surprisingly easy to clean. I like that.

Well, I went back to the range for the third time with the CM9, and ran 30 rounds of FMJ and then 3 different types of FMJs totalling another 30 rounds thru the pistol with NO ISSUES. So I am over my recommended 200 round break in and I am very happy with this little Kahr. Over 210 rounds fired I have had only one round that failed to cycle the first timne (it was a nosedive).

I had bought some extra mags for my PM40, and when I got to looking closely, I figured out that one of them was actually a 6-round 9mm mag, so now I have two, one with a grip extension and the stock flat one, which is great for carry. It seems to me that the 9MM is a natural fit for the PM/CM series guns. Also got to shoot a CW40 tonight and it was easier to handle than my PM40, but still had the sharp .40 caliber recoil. The owner of that gun says he prefers his PM45 to the CW40.

I agree with both points. I think the 9mm is the right caliber for the micro sized pistols and I'd rather have a CW45 over a .40 (Mine arrives next week)

Once more to the range -- this time a friend and I ran a box of Federal FMJ's thru the CM9, without any problems. Accuracy was good and we both agree that the 9mm is a lot less punishing than the .40 in a PM/CM size gun. The way the CM9 is running, I think this will be my last report - no more boring updates ;-)
