  • PM/CM9 vs. PM45

    Dear kind folks:

I'm close to selling my S&W revolver and want to replace it with either a PM/CM9 or PM45. What are your opinions regarding reliability of the PM45? Is it just as good as the trustworthy PM/CM9? If so, any reason I shouldn't want to carry the PM45? (I eventually would get it ported). I'm not looking for a "target practice" gun but rather just a off-duty self defense firearm that is great within about a 7 yard range. As long as I follow the recommended break-in/maintenance schedule, what are your thoughts on the PM45?

    Thanks to all who respond.

course I am biased. the cm9/PM9 is very pocketable and totally relialbe, not the thte PM45 is not , but it ain't pocketable . the PM(/CM9 is just so pleasant to shoot and is plenty of firepower. MY PM9 is magna ported and shoots like a 380, cewrtinly no more and it rides in my front jeans pocket 24/7.

Course for a person who can't decide u could buy the cm9 and PM45 and just shoot um both like u stole it but I feel in my heart the 9mm is the gun to own.

Please pay no attention to Bawanna if he pops on here with his "biased" 45 talk!!!

Kinda what Jocko has said. For pocket carry PM/CM9. IWB or OWB then I feel a Kahr in .45 ACP becomes a very attractive choice. Personally I would choose the CW45 or P45 over the PM45 for the extra barrel length and extra round when carrying each with their flush mag.

If you are ok and confident with the 9, the PM or CM and I would probably lean towards the CM just for the price go with it. It is noticeably smaller, it is pocketable although I never do and that method don't appeal to me.
I own the PM45 and wouldn't part with it for anything. I may one day get a CM9 just to fit in with the guys here.
It is small enough that it will never need to be left behind, course I never leave my 45 behind either, some might though, get the I feel lucky and won't be bothered today syndrome and leave the house naked.
If size is important get the 9. Can anyone believe I just said that?

Somebody slipped a little kryptonite into my date rape drug stash, I'm still trying to fight it off.

I'm thinking I gotta get a 380 before kraigster finds out I don't have one and kicks me off the P380 forum too. Long as I'm coming out of the closet I lurked the Elsiepea forum too. Little more action and entertainment there than the 380 which seems a tad slow. I'm staying here so I don't have to buy one of those too.

Since everybody has recommended the PM9 or CM9, I'll go the other way, even though I have a PM9. I am a fan of the 45 ACP round and would still be carrying the PM45 if it hadn't been stolen. The only reason I chose the 9mm as a replacement was that I have 1500 rounds of 9mm ammo and nothing else that shoots it. Otherwise it would have been the PM45 in a heartbeat. Others have said that the gun isn't pocketable and it really isn't in pants. However, during the colder weather, I ALWAYS had the 45 in an inside jacket pocket in a pocket holster, and there, it worked very well. Mine was 100% reliable, easy to shoot, and was at least as accurate as the PM9, but maybe not my CW40. I'm waiting to see if a CM45 is on the horizon, but if not, I will definitely have another PM45.

Mouse guns, why? I prefer Rat guns. Go with the 45, you'll be fine.

I just want to say I carry my PM45 six days a week in my pocket, it's not that big a deal, it's smaller than a j frame. I'll agree the 45 is bigger than the 9, thats why I like it. I feel in my heart the 45 is the gun to own.

Mine is at Magna Port right now along with my wifes LCP.

I will be very surprised if they port the lcp. They told me there is just not enough barrel, maybe things have changed. They would not magna port my P380 and the kahr barrel is much thicker than the lcp barrel. U will love that ported 45..

                    I neverhave measured but I can't imagine my model 60 J frame being bigger than a PM45..

Please, please, please post some pictures of your PM45 when it gets back from magnaport. I had my K40 done and have been thinking of sending my PM45 off also. It doesn't need it as bad as the 40 did but it might be kind of nice. I'm also curious how they locate the port and what it looks like.
Mine rides with me constantly so I have no reservations doing whatever I can do to make it even better than it already is.

I apologize for my earlier mousegun praise, fat bullets rule.

OK, my turn... I carried a 380 for a while but became convinced it wasn't enough. I really liked pocket carry so I ended up with a PM9. I discovered shortly that is isn't a very good pocket carry in lightweight business pants so I ended up carrying it IWB in a Silent Thunder. Knowing what I know now, I would have gotten the PM45 instead of the PM9. The 45 carries just as well in the Silent Thunder and Is more significant in caliber.

So, I'll say handle them both. Put a PM9 in a pocket holster and stick it in your pocket of what you'll wear. It's not for everybody but it is right for Jocko in his Levis. Another thing, if you happen to live in CA you can forget the PM45 as it isn't on their government approved list.

Oh hell man get one of each like I did, then the only dilema you have is which one to carry....on second thought carry them both and fear no evil for you will be the baddest @#*$*@# in the valley.
I have both a PM9 & PM45 and both are reliable. It took more time to break in the PM45 but it all smoothed out by round count 150. It does bark with great authority but is quite pleasant to shoot in my opinion.

Yup this is the best plan so far right here. Get both.

I'm gonna get a CM9 or a PM9 so I can abide by this wise advice myself.

I wanna be bad in the valley too.

                              Bawanna

I will get you some pics when I get it back. I sent if off last Mon. So I'm hoping I'll get it back in the next week or two. It will be my first ported handgun, can't wait to see what it does. And BTW, Don't let them convert you to the baby bullet side, be strong and resist.

And jocko, I really, really bad hope they port the LCP. If they don't I'll have to listen to the wife for a month, she is really excited.
