First Range Day With The New CM9

Hi All,

It is a week late but I finally got to the range today with my new CM9. Some of you might recall my story I posted earlier and my striker spring guide mishap. http://kahrtalk.com/showthread.php?t=8402 . Anyway, I must say I'm sooooo F'in happy with this gun!!!! I shot 200 FMJ rounds. A box of UMC, a box of Winchester White Box, a box of Federal, and a box of Speer Lawman. Not one gosh darn issue at all!!!! I used the slide release and also slingshot it. Both worked just fine. The slide locked back when it should have and didn't lock back when it shouldn't have. I could have shot the CM9 all day. The first 2 or 3 rounds I pushed low and left. But after that, right on target. After the the first 2 or 3 pushes only a few strays out of the next 197 rounds. I shot a box at 7 yards at 1 1/2 grouping. Then 10 yards at about a 2 inch grouping. The 25 yards at about 2 1/2 to 3 inch grouping. This gun is a dream to fire, smooth and easy to control. Recoil is minimal. I don't need any rubber grip or pinky extension or anything. After the FMJ's I shot 25 Gold Dot 124gr +P LE and then 25 Hornady Critical Defense. They all ran fine. The Gold Dot seemed a little more accurate than the FMJ. However, the Critical Defense was unreal!! Several times I put 2 or 3 rounds through the same hole at 7 and 10 yards. This gun is 10,000 times easier to shoot than my LCP. I do think owning and shooting the LCP has made me a better shooter. Because, everything else seems so easy compared to it. It is apparent to me now that I made the 100% correct decision when I replaced my LCP with the CM9 and sold the LCP. I'm glad I sold it. I'd never shoot it again. I am 100% confident in my abilities with this gun and I feel the gun is reliable enough to carry. I am however, going to go back to the range a few times more often than normal to make sure the gun is 100% reliable. When I reach about 1000 rounds without an issue I'll feel 100% confident in the gun. I feel part of my gun's success was due to following the prep outlined in the sticky and fine tuning the magazine. Thank you all for that info. It was more help than I can express. Friday is men's day at the range, no fee to shoot. I can't wait to go back next Friday and put a few 100 more rounds down range.

well thank you, for such a glowing report. Not that we would expect less out of the cm9, it has been so so successful . U did all the right thi9ngs to get ready for the first shoot also. I own an lcp and I gave it to my son. nice gun, it willgo bang but I couldnot hit anything with it. My P380 shoots circles around my lcp, actually shoots as good as I shoot my PM9. I think ur way over stressng your gun to say at 1000 rounds it will be reliabe enough to feel good about. ur here already, find a good defense round, make sure it works perfect and carry it and donj't worry about the reliablility thing. U gotta realize tha tif it goes 1000 rounds without an issuej, 1001 could be a malfunction, IMO not much different than your gun now going 200 flawless rounds and 201 being a malfunction. One round to me woul dnot be indicativbe of issues. shooter fatigue comes into paly sometimes, crappy round, dirty gun, combination of all 3, but I woulodn't put in the drawer because of that. Just my two cents,

nice report, very nice. but about what I expected.
You gotta think about one thing, IMO 1000 flawless rounds of fmj is nbot the same as 1000 rounds of 124 gold dots, HP ammo can at times be tricky and I don't think u wanna shoot 1000 rounds of gold dots to prove your point of it being reliable either. YOur 50- rounds of defense stuff IMO is a sign of good to go, go with what you like the best, 99.995% ur never gonna need it in defense, so either round you used is gonna do u well if needed. RELIABILITY HAS TOBE #1..

Sounds like a good day at the range! I have 920 rounds through my CM9 without a problem... I think it is just getting warmed up!

i've only been on kahrtalk for about a week now but it seems like almost every thread in this subforum is about a cm9. its going to be a top seller for kahr i think, and for good reason.

glad to hear about your positive experiences with yours, i have also been extremely pleased with mine since picking it up on the 8th and shooting 700 rounds through without a hiccup so far.

i agree with jocko, 200 rounds is probably sufficient to prove reliability but it needs to be up to you and your comfort level. i would not hesitate to carry after 200 flawless rounds, at that point chances are the gun works like its supposed to .

The PM9 is like the Chevy Impala and the CM9 is like the Belair with the same engine. I had a '58 and a '63 Impala... never a Belair, but it wasn't bias... just found a car I wanted at the price I could afford.
I paid my buddy $125 for the '58 Impala in '66, drove it to DC for my Vietnamese language "familiarization" and left it at home when I went overseas, got and used it to go to college when I got out of the USAF. It was fine until a deer crossed the road in front of me... then doubled back. Goodbye left front end! A little thread divergence.

brother when he was living at home with all of us, back many years ago had a 57 Belair, that to this day I still feel is the ultimate CHEVY. had the small black 283 in it but oh what a super nice car it was. oh for the good ol days.

The first car I owned was a 57 4-door Plain Jane with 283, 2-barrel and 2 speed auto. I think I paid $75 for it. It hadn't seen a real mechanic in years, the trans was stuck in top gear and it did fine with the $5 used tires I shod it with. Man, talk about some head room and leg room, front and back, and room for 6. I got $250 for it trade in on another car a few months later.

i used to borrow my brothers 57 chevy on a date and I spent alot of time in the back seat. lots of room for sure. with no air conditioning in the those cars,s we used to make screens for the windows. back then as u know we all did that sort of stuff, today with the modern genration, THEY JUST GET A MOTEL ROOM.
