  • CM9 Range report

Took the cm9 out finally to the range today. I put a little less than 200 rounds down range without any ftf or fte. However I was having some issues with the slide locking open after the last round had been fired(empty gun and mag).... I loaded 1-2 rounds in each of my mags and tried to duplicate the problem, but couldn't do it. It' was only happening every so often on a full mag.(using 6 round mags, one that came with it another mk9 mag) No big deal unless 7 rounds don't do it in a gun fight. Also upon coming home and cleaning it I lost a piece to my recoil spring assembly. Out of all the kahrs i've owned pm9 pm40 p380 ect I've never had that issue before. I sent Jay a email and hope he gets back to me soon. It's the little piece on the smaller spring assembly that I am missing. Almost like a nut of some kind. Either way I shot only fmj umc rounds and was very impressed with the little sucker! I'll have a winner once I get it up and running again. Until then it will be my 342, g27 and p238 as edc. Here is a pic of the recoil spring.

Hi friend! Good report on your CM9. You said "I was having some issues with the slide locking open after the last round had been fired(empty gun and mag)." Did you mean to say you were having issues with it NOT locking open? LOL!

Thank you for recommending PJHolster.com! The tuckable IWB holster that I ordered for my CM9 is the most comfortable holster that I own. Even after wearing it for hours, I have to reach over there and touch my gun to reconfirm that it is still there! There is simply no sensation of it being there at all, no sense of the mass of the gun being there, nothing! All for $40 shipped and would have been $35 without the tuck option. IMO it is much thinner and smaller than anything else I know of. I got the J-hook, but I think the closed Kydex belt loop would be better, or the metal clip. Also, forget the tuck option. What do you think?
    Very interesting...

yeah, i was in a hurry typing this report because the wife was hungry and wanted some chick fila..... Pauls holsters are the best thing under 50 bucks and I agree it's like wearing nothing! I have all of mine with the loop and love them, but I never wear a shirt tucked in here in florida. If I am in dress clothes I wear a ankle holster or carry in my front pocket. I am a big fan of being able to wear a holster all day and pjholster hits it right on the head! how's your glossy cm9 treating you?

They will most likely send you a whole new recoil assembly. A few of those nuts have come off. Wynn figured out what the thread pitch was and made his own for a spare. I don't think kahr sells the individual parts so you'll get the full deal which is as it should be.

yeah, i was like wth is up with this spring... I pulled up a video just to confirm that I was missing something. I hope it doesn't take too long I still need a few more boxes of ammo thru it to carry it everyday.

An email to Kahr CS with a picture of what's wrong should get you a replacement part quickly... OR make your own guide rod nut:

not to mention a recoil spring assembly, lol. glad to hear about your good experience shooting. there is another recent thread in this sub forum in regards to the slide failing to lock back, you can check that one out for some good advice.

about pjholster, i ordered one with the j-hook and it was a fabulous holster, but i think i made the wrong choice with the j-hook and sent it back to paul who offered to remold the attachment to a closed loop clip on. i mailed it out monday and stupid USPS still hasn't delivered it yet so i don't know whats going on, but i'm anxious as hell to get the holster back so they better figure it out soon. i also ordered a pocket holster from him so as soon as they come back i'll write up a review with some pictures and stuff in the gear forum.

That union... the threads on the screw end of the guide rod and the nut... is supposed to be a permanent one. If everything was cleaned properly and the bond was allowed to cure, it's supposed to be permanent. Apparently, sometimes it's not. Loctite and such are a super-glue-like thread adhesive... NOT for plastic, as the union is stronger than plastic and if you have to separate them, the plastic might lose out to the bond itself. All of the technical instructions for those adhesives say DO NOT use on plastics... just wanted to point that out.

The gun will shoot without the nut. Most of us don't find it's missing until we take the pistol apart... further than normal! There's no telling what point the little sucker flew off... downrange!

If you have time and the inclination, you can do what I did in the posted link above. I did and had a bunch of the correct-sized nuts from keeping supplies of stainless fittings for the boats I no longer own.

Oh, and I never throw anything away!

Jay Emailed me back first thing this morning and I have a new recoil spring assembly coming my way. I'll advise everyone upon it's arrival and my follow up range visit.
