Purchasing a used Kahr

After reading so many Posts where unhappy Kahr owners with new guns that Kahr couldn't/wouldn't/didn't make them operate satisfactory ended up selling them after just a few hundred rounds, how is it possible to purchase a used gun not knowing if it's on the market due to problems?

Kind of like purchasing a fairly new used car and hoping you're not buying someone elses headaches.

if the price is right i say buy it. if you purchase a kahr with headaches ship to kahr and let them fix it. Kahr states that warranty is only to the orginial owner but if you call them telling them your problem they will fix just don't tell them that you bought it used if they don't ask. a friend of mine bought a used pm45 and there was some issues with it and they just told him to ship it in without asking if he was the orginial owner. Come to a private FFL dealer and ask them to ship the gun. The fee will be alot less than ups or fedex charge. You can skip the hassle if you make your transaction local then you can ask them if you can test fire the gun before purchase.

I'd say if the scares you that much and you believe every negative thing you read on the net please for your own piece of mind don't buy one. Why torture yourself over such things and buy a gun that everyone likes. Good Luck with that. I bought my PM9 as a slightly used pistol that someone did not like for some reason. They were even to lazy to fill out the paper work and return it to Kahr. Great deal for me as I got a PM9 with night sightes that was not even broken in yet at a very attractive price.
Oh by the way it's been flawless.

* Ask to shoot the gun if possible.
* Examine the gun for obvious flaws or problems, excessive wear.
* Function test by; cycling the slide, cycle snap caps, drop the mags, check the striker using the simple pencil test, does an empty mag hold the slide open, how does the trigger feel.
* Plan on replacing the recoil spring.

Most of my guns are used, including most of my Kahrs. All but one was a perfectly fine and functioning gun. At the right price a used Kahr can be quite a bargain.

You just advised the poster to do something that is unethical. What makes you think that his moral standards are as low as yours?

I am not so sure you could get away with warranty work as a second owner if the original owner had already had warranty work done. In my case Kahr had a complete history of my gun just by accessing the serial number.

There is a reason why you can purchase a Kahr used with just a few hundred rounds. If you love the gun I would check to see if they still have the warranty card. If not I don't think it is worth buying a used Kahr. The hourly shop rate and postage for one trip will offset what you will save.

I sent my CM9 back three times. The postage alone costs about $100 to Kahr. The labor cost I am guessing for the three repairs would have cost me $150 -$200.

Add it up and my $399 Kahr would have set Mr back another $250 -$300 had I not had a warranty. The only way I would have came out ok used of I would have bought used for around $100. Not going to happen. New OS your best net in my opinion. Russ

Therein lies the answer to your question.

You buy used anything from a stranger, you take your chances that the seller is an honest person. End of story.

Your plan has a flaw. If the original owner has sent it in once, then there are records. The second owner's name and address won't match up. A gun without a warranty can get expensive. Gunsmithing labor is from $50 to $65 / hour. Overnight shipping is about $60 each way.

I don't know about the rules or warranties, just know that Kahr has been very good about repairing second owner guns. Not all rules are enforced the same as you know from traffic law enforcement. Ever see a bicycle run a stop sign?

Well I got 7 cash money on me, I better send you 1 and then we'll both have 6. Course then I got the 50 cents to send a check probably plus a check charge so if I allow for that I'd be down to 5 too.

If you buy from Bud's, they have some kind of warranty on all guns they sell. I was told I would get my money back if an issue arrose within the first 30 days. Call them for real details as there is no info on their site. Also, you have a couple of days to return it if you decide the pics weren't accurate enough, therre was a scratch, etc. Again, call them for details.

I would not approach buying a used Kahr any differently than any other used gun. If it looks good and not abused looking and seems to rack properly your probably ok.

Regardless of warranty there's lots of help right here and if need be the folks at Kahr will straighten it out.

We surely don't look down on trivial or what some call stupid questions. What's old news for some is ground breaking for others.
