  • T9 for the wife?

I'm on a search for a nice semi auto 9mm for the wife to shoot at the range. She has very small hands/short fingers and is difficult to buy for. About the only 9mm I've found that fits her hands reasonably well is the Kahr, specifically the CW9 I have, she can actually reach the trigger with her hand positioned properly on the gun. I'm thinking one of the steel frame Kahr's is the ticket for her, probably the longer T9 as the extra weight will make it a nicer shooter. My question is on the grip size: is the grip on the T9 (or K9) the same width and length of pull as the CW9? If the length from the back to the trigger is longer that might be a dealbreaker.

    Thanks!
    Kahr PM9, P380, T9, CW9, and a crapload of Glocks.

As carefully as I could, I measured the reach from mid trigger to the back strap. The polymer pistol measured 61.75mm and the metal Kahr measured 63.5mm. The wood grip "feels" a little more full than the polymer grip, but the overall difference in trigger reach is nil IMHO. If you want the exact same reach then perhaps the TP9 would also be an option. Both 4" barreled pistols shoot the same as far as I'm concerrned.
Judging by today's left wing, looks like Senator Joe McCarthy was right after all.

The one and only T9 that I actually held in my hand (for several minutes, they had to pry it out to put back on the table) looked to me like the wood grips could be thinned down considerably. I've discovered that thin even on a 1911 platform makes a huge difference in the feel, especially for a small handed person.

I agree that the T9 would be a great range gun for your wife. Are you using that as a ruse so you can have it yourself. I do that myself frequently.

I'll back ya 100% if that's the case. And if I can assist in some grip reduction I'm there for you too. I'd probably suggest ordering some smooth grips from the Kahrshop and then slim them down and checker however pleases her/you.

I miss read it as well. Had to cut the box open and let her out when I realized what it really said.

Thanks for the measurements! I figured the wood would feel puller, but could probably be thinned if necessary. I considered the TP9, but I'd like to get her into an all steel gun as it will have less felt recoil. Her CCW piece is a Ruger LCR .357, but it isn't necessarily fun to shoot.

I've used the ruse to justify a handful of purchases over the years (my favorite was the Yugo SKS I purchased for myself on Valentines day a few years ago, I was 2 hours late for dinner when I "gave" it to her ), but in this case it really is something for her. I rented her a Springfield EMP 9mm last fall. I'm not a fan of 1911's, but it did fit her hand. Unfortunately (or fortunately) she didn't shoot it very well because she has no experience with a single action pistol. I like the idea of a T9 with slimmed grips for her.

Back in 1981 I got MY WIFE a really nice Jeep CJ7, I traded her Chevy Rally Nova in for her so she would be safer in the winter.

I stopped in at a shop today and checked out a K9 and a CW9 together. Looking at the two in the hand I could see that the rubber grips were indeed a bit fuller than the polymer frame. I don't know that the difference would be enough to make it so the grip would be too large for her. I'm thinking I'll put a couple of pieces of bike tube on the CW9 and see how it fits her hand.
