What color to make PM45?

After doin' the blue 10/22, I've got the urge to do something crazy with my silver PM45.

First inclination is olive slide and parts... ho hum, been done.

Give me something nuts crazy to ponder.

We have, bright green, royal blue, bright orange, red, white, gold, brass (darker gold), tan, light earth, dark earth, light olive, olive, dark olive, grey, stainless, titanium, dark grey and black. No purple. But maybe... some blue, red and white all mixed.

I went through this same urge recently with my CM9.

After much back and forth, I decided to stick with black because I was concerned that a BG might not give a crazy-colored gun as much respect if I ever had to draw it. Since the NRA says that there are millions of incidents each year that are resolved without firing a shot just by displaying a gun, I want that display to have as much impact as possible.

The problem with shotguns... or any long gun is the length of barrel vs size of my oven. I did my AR15... except the barrel. I ended up shooting the rifle extensively (about 2500 rounds), and that cured all but the last 8 inches of barrel or so... which cured one evening by a very hot campfire. Came out ok, but I dont wanna do THAT again

I will say - the 2400 series GunKote is VERY easy to apply, easier than the old stuff, much more forgiving. Harbor Freight touch up sprayer (about $14), and my trusty little Craftsman compressor (about $139 on sale). Clean parts EXTREMELY WELL - totally get all grease and such off. Run 'em thru the dishwasher, whatever... I used lacquer thinner to degrease, followed by hot soap and water, then naphtha, and soap and water again. Gotta be clean. Then shoot. You can shoot at room temp, light coats. New layers melt into the ones already down - like lacquer. You can actually use acetone or lacquer thinner to "knock down" the finish - spray a fine mist of solvent on the finish you've applied... and it knocks any orange peel or irregularities down flat. Cure. 325-350 F for an hour AFTER coming up to at least 325 F. If you missed a spot, clean with naphtha (once cooled off). Soap and water. Reshoot the whole piece or an area. Re-Cure. Easy. Very easy. If you get a little dust spec in it... cure it... the dust will either burn up and go away, or you can just knock it off the cured finish. If desired burnish the finish with a cloth to bring up "the sheen". If you really want to... you can polish it out to a high luster, but go easy on the buffing, dont buff through the finish. Very slick to the touch too, repels water like a ducks derriere.

I can only answer what I would want but I doubt it is even possible. Now that I'm tucking my IWB, I'd like a completely white shirt color on everything except the belt clip and that in black. Then no chance of showing through a dress shirt. At least not like black would.

Ah... I'm gonna just go black. Try and get the sights off without mangling them, if I do... well I guess new sights will go on.

Maybe I can figure out how to get the trigger out... if not, I'll just do the slide and rear plate and slide stop.

No need to sand after cure... just remove BEFORE cure... with acetone... easy to touch up, if needed, get right, then cure.

Thats an idea.... gotta look at it and sleep on it. Its probably this weekend's project

I'm still thinkin... Equinox type might be nice. I can do that! But I gotta look and see how it would exactly look. I want mostly black. Was thinking of black/orange Harley colors... nah. Nothing quite does it justice like basic black. And... the older black I have is dead nuts tough. Tougher they say than the newer 2400 series. I've got the OLD brew Kal-Guard K-Kote.... when it was a mil-aero coating, occasionally used on guns. Had to buy a case of it just to get it from Kal-Guard!! (back in the 80's). Stinky, and tough. I like the idea of two tone tho, because it would match the silver trigger and odd silver parts (extractor, barrel, recoil guide). Gotta sip and think on this more.
