Sold my Kahr

Haven't been a member here too long; my CW 40 didn't work out for me, so it now has a new owner. But I have to say this is by far my favorite handgun forum, and I'll probably still stop in every once in a while. You guys are a lot more fun to talk to than most, and I've learned a lot here.

Heck, don't give up on Kahr. I too had a CW40 that didn't work out. Got rid of it and bought a K40 and am happy as a lark!

Sorry that the Kahr didn't work out for you, just the way it goes sometimes. So, have you a replacement in mind? I'd be interested to what it might be and how it works out for you.

Husky I had a couple P45's that weren't super reliable so after sending them back in multiple times I finally sold them. However, I have a total of 7 different Kahr 9mm models only one of which has ever had an issue that was easy to fix with just a new slide release. Using 124 +P ammo there is a reasonably close performance with .40 cal ammo and most people here would agree the 9mm is what Kahr's are built for as the ammo feeds more reliably in that size than the bigger rounds.

The reason I got rid of my CW 40 was not so much functioning or reliability as it was ergonomics. I did have the one issue with it not ejecting unfired rounds, but that was fixable. My problem was more that the gun just didn't feel "natural". On my other handguns, when I draw and point, the sights are pretty much lined up on what I am already looking at. The Kahr didn't do that, and it wasn't even consistent in how it was off. I know it's not the gun's fault, but how the gun fits my hand and build, but it was getting frustrating.

I had a similar experience with Glock, but got to discover it in the store. Went in to buy a Glock, handled several, and as hard as I tried, something just didn't "feel" right. Picked up an XDM, and it felt like someone designed it with my hand as a mold. It was uncanny how natural that gun was to aim! I could focus my eyes on something, draw the pistol without changing my focus, and in <1 sec from starting the draw, I was still looking at the target, but my sights were now aligned on it, without adjusting, if that makes any sense. I just couldn't get there, despite a lot of practicing and really wanting to, with the Kahr.

Bill K: I replaced it with a Walther PPS. I couldn't be happier. It made me realize that the "problem" with the Kahr seemed to be the size of the grip. When I put the large backstrap on the Walther, it's significantly bigger (front-to-back) than the Kahr grip, and that seemed to make all the difference in the world. Fit and finish seem every bit as good as they were on my CW 40, with the added benny that I don't have to go hunting the guide rod three times during reassembly. Biggest problem with the Walther is their forum isn't near as active as this place. Not a bad group of folks, just kinda ... vanilla.

Loved the PPS so much that I swapped my XDM for a PPQ. As far as getting another Kahr, I seldom say "never", but I'm more of a utilitarian type with my firearms, and I have what I need, so I don't see it changing much in the future. But, I'll let you guys work on me.

Sounds like you got it pretty much sorted out. A gun that feels right is certainly a big plus. It is an advantage we civilians sometimes have over active LEOs - their having, in some departments, no choice of duty guns and even, I believe, sometimes off duty guns.
