hello guys, noob from Indianapolis here.
thought i'd share my recent incident with a local Gander Mountain.
i ordered a set of Williams (green) sights from Kahr for my PM9, and upon finding out that none of the local gunsmiths want to touch 'em, i called Gander to see if they'd do the install. they said "sure! bring 'em in", so i did later that afternoon.
guy greeted me, i asked him if they could install the sights, and he took my slide and my sights into the back room. told me to wait a few minutes.
after about 10 minutes, he came back out with the slide, with my new sights put in! i was about 20 feet away from him when i saw him come out of the gunsmith room, so i rushed to the counter all excited.
FRONT SIGHT CRACKED, SLIDE CHIPPED. I said WHAT... THE... $#@%?
I asked the guy what happened, and he starts rambling on and on about how the Williams sights are made of cheap material and they're really weak, and that you always run the risk of damaging the sights and the slide when installing these types of sights. I asked another guy that was next to him (which was the actual gunsmith. guy who worked on my gun was just a dept manager) and he said the same thing. "Yeah...nothing we can do about that now..."
i left the store, came back to my office, called Gander Customer Service. they actually had a prompt for "Retail Experience". so i told them the story, they contacted the store manager. store manager called me back, apologized, told me he would replace my slide, asked me to bring in the whole gun.
already a long story, but to keep it short, they're actually replacing the whole gun now. i requested the all black unit (instead of my original bitone), with trijicon night sights already built-in from factory. supposedly their warehouse had one in stock, and it's due in by Friday or next Monday, they say.
i guess the story isn't over until i get my replacement.
