Nice rig there... I'm planning on getting a d5100 this summer. As long as I don't come across any more guns I just have to have!

(which is surprisingly decent)

(also nice for landscapes and portraits)
28mm f1.8 was next purchase, but the Kahr CW9 got to my money first

I also have a BlackRapids strap which I very highly recommend to all DSLR owners!

BUT, it screws on the bottom so you can't use a tripod at the same time. I recently made a bottom plate so that's no longer an issue. I loved the strap before, but now it's true love.

I've seen better photos from an iPhone from someone that new photography that looked better than photos from a $2000 camera body by someone who didn't.

Thunder71, maybe yqtszhj has "mad skills" in photography, but thinks it is his camera that it's doing it!

At least he said it about his own camera... Someone in my family always tells me "your camera takes really nice pictures". It's kind of like telling a cook "your pots and pans make really good food"!

I totally agree with you, and I too get some really nice shots with my iPhone. I use Snapseed to do some "photoshop" type work to correct white balance etc. when needed. Great app!

BUT, a phone or a point-and-shoot can't provide nearly the depth of field of a fast lens on a DSLR, or the creative control of many other aspects a DSLR provides. That being said... the camera and lens does play a part in helping the photographer "get the good shots".

Good point. When I get the settings right it takes great pictures. I was pretty good at it for a while (while learning) but then I forgot a lot or just don't think about the ISO/shutterspeed/ aperture stuff because I quit taking as many pictures. We had a around a 16x24 enlargement of the family from Great Sand Dune park in Colorado that was really nice.

BUT I did get (or should I say the wife got) 2 of the the IS lenses because I had the shakes too bad. Now I've gotten so lazy I don't like using it as much because I have to load everything on the computer to do anything with it and that takes so much time. The wife still uses it a lot.

You mentioned the iPhone, I can take come really crappy pictures with that. The shakes thing again. Almost as bad as the webcam pictures of my guns here on Kahrtalk.
