I bought the wife a Nikon D3100 for Christmas. We both really like that camera. I also picked up an 55 to 205mm zoom lens for it. I got the lens for short money so I couldn't resist. She is doing pretty good with it.

And Muggsy....., I also still have my old Minolta SRT101. another great camera. I have not used it for years. Whereas, we have pretty much gone Digital, I should probably sell my SRT101 and all the lenses I have for it.

I could be wrong, but I think your Minolta lenses might work with the current Sony DSLRs. I believe Sony bought them and that's where their camera business started.

You're on the right track... but I think WMD would still need an adapter. I am pretty sure the Sony Alpha mount is basically the Minolta MA mount and his camera is MC. I did this with my Minolta X700 lenses (MD mount) on my Canon 60D and it worked good (with some drawbacks though). If you have a lot of nice lenses, it would be worth trying... and a fun experiment!

FWIW, anyone grousing for a full frame Canon... the 5DmkII will be going on sale for $1950 or so - body, to make room for the mkIII version. Prices already have dropped a little. The mkII is a great camera, nothing afoul there, just ... newer stuff always takes its place.
