  • New Kahr (CM9) Owner from IL!

Howdy! Most gun forums I belong to have an "introduction" forum where you are required to tip your hat and say hello. This will check that box if required.

New Kahr owner. I just bought a CM9 for absolutely no reason! Never fired one, never held one, never owned one. Heck - I was buying a S&W M&Pc 9mm and remember hearing great things about the Kahr...so I added it to the online grocery cart! This "replaces" my LCP and my PF9 for BUG. Primary carry is either a G23 or G36.

Long time shooter, Active military, not new to guns...but also not a gun collector or armorer. Own all plastic guns and some rifles. Main focus here is searching for common answers to common questions concerning my gun: pre-shooting prep, fav ammo, fav holsters, AAR comments, etc.

    Thanks for having me!

Welcome to the forum. Thank you for your service.
Be sure to read the stickies in the Kahr Tech section on prep lube and breakin.
Enjoy that CM9. It's a sweet shooter once you learn your part.

That notch in the rail is supposed to be there

"Laws that forbid the carrying of arms disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes. Such laws make things worse for the assaulted and better for the assailants; they serve rather to encourage than to prevent homicides, for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence than an armed man."

Haha, thanks. Sorry, but I am not FROM this state...simply hostage here until the Army moves me again. Coming from Texas via Kansas - two gun-loving states! Hopefully going back to Texas after a couple years in this gun-hatin' state. I even had to apply for a card (FOID) just to buy ammo, handle guns in a gun store, and buy guns here in IL. I simply go to STL (MO) to shoot...but now that I got one of the cards...I can shoot/buy/and handle guns here in IL. Whoopie.

don't u love it when they pass these laws to LESSEN CRIME. I love about 5 miles from the Ill border and when in the gun busness, I lost alot of close Illinois customers due tothe FOID card sh!t.

Well...if you think back to 1997, California changed their gun laws to ban high-cap magazines after the North Hollywood Robbery. That doesn't stop people from killing others in the state - not like that will stop someone with intent to kill...hell they just have to reload more often!

Illinois is a screwed up state - I challenge ANYONE to argue that it is not. I pay 20 cents more a gallon of gas just being here...and I am a stones throw from STL. Scary place, but still better than Detroit I guess!

my brother in law delivers mail in east st. louis and there are some areas that the mail carrier refuse to go without some kind of escort.

About 6 yars ago the wife and I went to Detroit to the Detroit auto show to see the new porsches. I was driving at the time a Jag.and never being in detroit, so I had my PMJ9 with me but knew they would not allow any firearms in the cobo hall. anyway we parked our jag on one of the car levels about 4 blocks from the center (daylight). The level was full of cars. Well when we came out bout 6 hours later it was dark and we could not remember what level we parked the cars on and it seemeld like all the cal parking levels were no totally empty. A fear came over me and the wife as here we were in a focking city that kills kand robs for fun and we could not find out car and our damn sole protection was locked inside the car because we couldnot carry it inside the car show. It tooks us a good 15 minutes runningup and downt he different levels trying to find our car and luckily there was no one on any levels either that posed any kind of a threat. NEVER AGAIN.

That's kind of funny. Last night on SNL they were doing skits about Mitt Romney and how he would say almost anything to sound like he was a regular guy and a "local". one of the segments was in East St. Louis, IL and Mitt was saying how ESL was their favorite place and where they had always dreamed of living... his wife was wanting to protest, but the chubby black guy behind him said that the city WAS a hellhole and HE was the MAYOR! Funny!

Welcome to the forum and Happy Easter.

I like the research that you did before choosing your PM9:

You've got great gut instincts! The PM9 really is a great little pistol.

Thanks again for the kind words! Yes, I must have awesome instincts since I bought a gun from a maker I have never shot. Heck, just like many other newbies, I am finding out that this "special" gun is quite different than the big box polymer boogiemen that are out there. One MUST rack the slide like a maniac several hundred times just to loosen 'er up. One must wipe down the excessive lubing which is all over the gun and it's pitiful extra 6rd mag before one then lavishes much more lube in and around the guts of good ole Kahr girl. Finally, one must then search for a holster and ammo which one doesn't already own since this new horse is from a completely different stable. Fun.

So. I did some basic research, now give me some answers! Need to shoot the hell out of this gun next week so I can start carrying in STL the week after!

                    1. Best magazines? I see a 6rd, 7rd, and 8rd for sale. $26-$28 each. What do y'all own? 6rd in the gun? 7rd/8rd on the side? Does it make much difference in length?

                    2. Best FMJ ammo to shoot. Can I simply keep buying the PMC 500rd box or the WWB from Walley-World?

                    3. Best IWB and AIWB holsters? Keep seeing this Remora thing - but I don't often carry in sweats and will never carry in a pocket. She will be IWB.

                    4. Is the plastic case sold via Kahr good enough? I want one just like my S&W, XDs, etc. Just need a hole for a lock.

                    5. Mag holsters? Which do you prefer? They will be on belt. Rather nylon and open than leather and expensive. (Spent all my cash on this gun!)

                    6. Better sights? Yeah, this is important to me. Best night sights made for this gun?

Ok, I feel better now...back to Easter chocolate.

I took my mk9 into Cobo 2 years ago (don't ask don't tell sort of) for the autorama. I live outside of Detroit and Downtown within a short distance is about the only SAFE place in Detroit.

Yup pretty much. I also use a leatherman pouch for my extra 6 rounder.

I like the Crossbreed minituck for my IWB purposes, not for all but cool to check out. Since its summer, Im in board shorts or athletic shorts a good portion of the time, so this is fitting the bill pretty well. Plus I can carry my extra 6 rounder, wallet, and phone in this little guy. Some like Galco for the leather pouches and its set up to hold a large frame or J-frame.

Welcome and thanks for your service!

I carry my CM9 in an el cheapo uncle mike's pocket holster and it actually works quite well. Most of the time I don't carry a spare mag unless I'm going out of town. Ammo wise I've shot nothing but 115gr coated handloads with no problems. My carry ammo is Hornady Critical Defense but I've yet to run some though it yet (I know, stupid ).
