  • Lonesome Dove

Just finished watching Lonesome Dove for about the umpteenth time and I still love that series.

To me it is the penultimate Western.
I know it's been discussed here before and I know it's the favorite of many regulars here but I just needed to post it once again.

Such laws make things worse for the assaulted and better for the assailants; they serve rather to encourage than to prevent homicides, for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence than an armed man."

I looked it up and it means "next to last". So I think just plain "ultimate" is best. Just sayin..sorry for using your expression jocko. My personal faves are the old westerns like Chisum and El Dorado etc.

I love the movie, but I found the book almost unreadable. Something about his literary style just didn't do it for me...but, the movie was great.

Read the book and I have watched the movie many times; love it. I found it one of the few movies that follow the book very very closely

the guy that wrote "no county for old men", "all the pretty horses"; now that guy writes a book that is hard for me to read, really strange style. But his movies turn out good???

One of my favorite movies hands down. Loved the prequel too. Hated the sequel.

Didn't like the book much either.

Lonesome Dove is one of my all-time favorite books. The rest of the series, was good too.

The Count of Monte Christo is my other favorite.

I can only watch "Lonesome Dove" in a single setting. Of course, I have to set a few hours aside to do so!

Yup, another good one. I've watched it at least 38 times and I don't think I'll ever get tired of it. I'm kind of tired now and have the blues after I had to leave a pristine 1903 Springfield at the gun show.
Maybe I'll recliner up and watch it now.
