  • 1st Gun & The One That Got Away

Just wanted to start a thread about that first gun. What was it? When did you buy it? Why did you buy it? Do you still have it? And with that, what was that one gun you got rid of that you are still kicking yourself for?

My first gun was a Beretta 92FS bought way way back in 2004. I bought it because being my first gun I wanted a 9mm and at the time I figured if it was good enough for our troops it was good enough for me. I liked the gun and it was good to learn with, but after about 4 years I traded it in on a Gen 3 Glock 19 (since traded in on a Gen 4 Glock 19).

The gun I wish I never sold was my Colt 1911. 1991 Series 80 Stainless Government. Wish I still had that. Stupid me.

So what was your first, and what one got away? Pictures always welcome.

My first gun was a sawed off shotgun single shot that would knock you on your butt. That was back in 1965. Don't miss it or want it back......

Kel-Tec PF-9. Ran flawlessly from the get go no matter what I fed it. Traded it toward a Glock 27

First one given to me... sig p6. First one purchased for myself kahr cm9! Wasnt much into guns with the p6, just something to keep next to the bed. Decided I wanted to start carrying and well the cm9 was the obvious choice. Got it 3 months ago, have put over 1k rounds through it, and have NO plans on gettin rid of it!

p.s. great idea for a thread btw!

The oldest/first handgun I ever purchased was a Beretta 21A in .22cal. The wife thought it was such a cutey and I was able to afford it. Still have it, thousands of round through it and it still shoots fine. Still carry on some days in a Uncle Mike's pocket holster.I just have to down load the mag by a round if I want it to run right.

The one I regret selling was a GP100 Ruger, 4in with adjustable sights. I bought it cheap at a pawnshop and later sold it to a co-worker for a tidy profit. I regret the profit now, that gun was a great shooter.
I was once asked if I was "a paranoid for carrying my Kahr".
              "Nope" I said, "just prepared".
" prepared for what" he asked?

My first gun was a .22 that I bought from the back of Popular Mechanics. I think it was about $20.00. It was delivered in the US Mail. My Dad was home before me and took it from the mail man. I never did get that gun.

My first was a Colt Woodsman Match Target, bought in 1968 as a competition target pistol. I bought it because it was the best gun I could afford then. It is still a very nice gun, very accurate, very well made and very reliable.

One that got away... Perhaps my Astra Constable. I carried this gun from the mid seventies to about 1980, then sold it to someone that wanted it. I don't know why I gave in to his wish. That gun was very reliable and I shot it well. If I found a nice one today I'd probably buy it.

Ruger SS GP-100 4" barrel for me & SS SP-101 3" barrel for the Mrs, both .357 Magnums. Purchased in 2001 for protection when Horseback riding in the Oregon wilderness. Still have 'em both, my wife's 2 favorite guns. Never had one get away!

I think my first gun was my Winchester Mod 94, pre-64, in .32 Win Special. My mom bought it as a teenager and gave it to me on my 21st birthday. To this day, by far the best birthday present I've ever received. One I will never sell but will be passed down to one of the deserving family youngun's when the day comes. Right now, my neice is first in line, providing she shows an appitude towards hunting/shooting. She is well on her way at 11 years old.

The one that got away? I have yet to sell any firearm I've ever owned. But I would have to say an old Reminton .22 I gave to my neice and nephew a few years ago that could handle .22 short, long, and long rifle. I grew up with that rifle and took many, many rabbits with it. Just happy to know that it is still in the family and in good hands.

I need to be more like you. Except for my 10/22, all of the guns I have owned I either get bored with, feel some strange need to upgrade to something "better", dump because of poor performance, or in the case of my Colt, get talked out of it by a buddy (some friend). I still have this problem. I am trying to seek help.

My first given gun was a Winchester 94 30-30 for hunting. My first store bought was a Ruger Single Six with the extra 22 mag cylinder. Still got it.

I've regretted every single gun I ever traded or sold. Usually I still loved it but wanted something else bad enough I had to part. Some very poor trades in hindsight but that's the way hindsight usually works.

If you mean a rifle, I bought a Remington Model 530 22 when I was eleven. I bought my first pistol during my first cruise when I found out the Navy issued S&W 38's to its pilots. It was a Browning HP, and didn't feed reliably until a Navy armorer tuned it. I still have both packed away in the attic.
