Probably great stuff I am certain. We have a "Brit" friend who has introduced us to Balvenie Double Wood. At only 12 years old, it is probably cheaper than your favorites. But, it beats the green bottle off the Cutty Sark rotgut we thought was great stuff in college.

We drink less of it these days and remember it better.

It would be so nice if something made sense for a change.

George Dickel Tan label is it for me too. Love the bite.

I enjoy Macallan, Laphroaig, Glenmorangie, Oban and occasionally Lagavulin ... But my favorite is definitely Balvenie!

I enjoy The Macallan, Glenfiddich ,Famous Grouse, J&B and Dewars in that order. On the rocks or neat. For a daily drink (don't laugh) I like Clan MacGregor.tom.

Scotch was something I never aquired a taste for. My favorite whiskey was Old Wellers 107. I think Wellers is more of a midwest thing. I don't see it often in other states. I was in Denver once, and asked for a bottle, and the clerk looked around for quite awhile, then pulled out a dusty old bottle from behind some other brand. It was well aged...in the bottle.

The mid-West makes a formidable rye whiskey: Templeton. I think it's from Iowa.

My friend from Mississipi has some good stories about running 'shine. back in the 70's. He'd deliver the shine, then come back and the guy would hand him an envelope with money in it. He took it and left and counted it later, it was always a different amount, but he didn't even look in the envelope until he was well away from they guy. He says the guy that with the still kept a jug by the door, and standard procedure was to walk in, take a big gulp out of the jug, enough to make a big bubble float to the top, and then find a place to sit down before it hit you. It was a big insult to the guy if you didn't hit the jug. And you damn sure didn't want to insult this guy.

The best moonshine in the world comes from Transylvania County in Western North Carolina. Reason being that someone stole a very expensive stainless steel distillery from the DuPont plant there many decades ago. I sampled some of that moonshine at my brother's wedding reception because his bride had relatives from Transylvania County. This stuff was the polar opposite of the nasty rotgut stuff that usually passes for moonshine. It was so pure that sipping it was like pure water in your mouth. Then, when you swallowed, a warm sensation started at the top of your esophagus and moved slowly down. There was no bite, no nasty taste or aftertaste. Just ultra pure alcohol and probably way over 200 proof. The most incredible strait liquor that I ever imbibed!
                        Very interesting...

Better than 100% pure alcohol, huh?

You do realize that 200 proof is 100 % alcohol, right?

That reminds me of Lake Wobegon, where all the children are above average . . . according to Mr. Garrison Keillor.

                            I thought 200 proof was 50% alcohol.

"Proofing" has an interesting history, I guess they used to pour some whiskey on black powder, and when touched with a match, if the powder burned, then the whiskey was "proved". Or something along those lines. This was back around the 16th or 17th century or so.

Ah . . . That might explain your behavior at the last office party!

I like your formula better anyway. It would allow me to drink more before driving home, right?
