Not really. If you need to defend yourself against a butane tank, you might want to consider a .45.

The father is at least partially responsible:

1. the kid was 17, the legal drinking age in Texas is 21 (several charges could be made just for this)

2. the whole family is illegally in the US, they're criminals

3. illegally in possession of a firearm (must be a citizen or legally resident alien to possess a gun);

4. unlawfully discharging a firearm inside the city limits; reckless endangerment of property and persons; probably more).

Of course, it really doesn't matter with what they charge him, with McAllen being only 8 miles from Reynosa, Mexico, the kid's whole family is probably already deep into Mexico. It's highly unlikely that Mexico would extradite him to the US. Besides, the last thing we need here in Texas is one more illegal alien in our prison system.

Too bad about the kid, though. (There probably aren't very many male members of this forum that didn't do a few really stupid things at 17.)

Good riddance to the irresponsible dad and the rest of the family. DON'T COME BACK!

One other thing, the dad, being a Mexican national, is subject to Mexican law even if a crime is committed outside of Mexico. So, the dad is probably subject to prosecution in Mexico, too.

Regardless, he's going to have to live with the death of his son the rest of his life.
