Why do we drop the slide instead of slingshot?

I actually only slingshot during clearing drills.
Find I personally can reload faster, and only need to use one hand,
by dropping the slide with the slide release.
Leaving my other hand free for self defense.

Opinions vary and this topic has drawn heated responses on other forums.

I always slingshot when I load.

It's gonna have one in the hole if something happens and when I reload the slide will more than likely be back already, I'm going to drop it to reload cause the is no reason to drop it then slingshot to reload.

I cleaned my sisters 380 tonight, I didn't realize they had an inner and an outer spring, that could explain why it's so damn hard to rack, my cm9 feels easy compared to it.
