Most SHTF situations occur at very close range. You aren't likely to get off more than a round or two before your attacker is upon you. A .22 might do, but I'm from the bigger is better school. For me the 9mm strikes a good balance between power and accuracy.

Interesting results. I have carried a .22 as an EDC before with the thought process that "I just don't miss with that gun..."
That said, I feel better with my P380, loaded with modern SD ammo. My .40 S&W is even better.

The numbers must have changed over the years . The Sig wasn't available then and the 125 grn s.j.h.p.Rem load at 1450 was 85% one shot torso hit,fights over. Many agencys when to this load because of Evans and Marshals documentation of 100's of actual LEO bad guy engagemnents. We started carrying S&W's M-13's with this load and later changed to m-19's in 4" 140 grn. Win. Silvertips jhp's . Before we went to 10mm and then 40 S&W .Good reading though.
