  • Cw45 Rust

Just picked up my pistol and notced that there is some rust spots starting to develop on the slide release and in the groves on the end of the slide itself.. Are kahrs know for this.. This is my everyday carry and is cleaned after every shooting or at least once a month if not shooting. Any feedback, I certainly don't want the inside rusting, let alone the outside..
I don't care if I fall as long as someone else picks up my gun and keeps on shooting.

stainlees is not rust proof, but it is really really rust resistant. depending on the surface finish some s.s. is more prone to rust than others.

make sure youre not seeing brown leather holster pieces in the nooks-n-crannies of the slide grip ridges....i found that once and thought it was rust. next, use a stainless brush to clean off the rust or some sort of mild abrasive like scotch brite, clean as normal....then aplpy a layer of oil. let the oil sit on the surfaces for half and hour then wipe off excess.

see if this reduces or stops the problem.
I hate being bi-polar, its awsome!

My K9 devolved rust on the grip screws that rest against my side when carrying it.

I cleaned them regularly, soaked them in oil a few times and even tried putting clear nail polish on them to prevent the rust from coming back, nothing worked.

I finally just bought new screws from Kahr.

It's been IWB, hot and sweaty all week and no rust.

My MK9 is newer (10years newer), but carried much more IWB and pocket, and it has never devolved this issue, thank goodness.

Weird, but at least I fixed it.

That notch in the rail is supposed to be there

"Laws that forbid the carrying of arms disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes. Such laws make things worse for the assaulted and better for the assailants; they serve rather to encourage than to prevent homicides, for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence than an armed man."

Even being stainless steel I wipe off my mk's after each & evrry handling or time of carry with a silicone cloth. When done frequently enough hopefully rust does not have enough time to begin.

When not CC'n wet with breakfree clp and let set . Wipe off and carry . After time it will just stop trying to rust. If you heat parts wet with clp it will seep it to the pores of the metal . I did this with a ss taurus for 20 years of cc with still no rust and a KT pf-9 with black slide for several years both in a pocket working constrution. Now my kahrs.

Try Flitz - either liquid or paste. Both are non abrasive. It will remove rust and oxidation as well as protect the metal - it wont however, get rid of amy pits left behind, as that is metal that is gone for good. Flitz works really good, and is safe for all metal including blueing. It has no ammomia- and the liquid works awesome as a brass tumbler additive for polishing brass for reloading!

I use it on all of my guns - use it before a problem arrives!
