I'll be impressed when they have aircraft that can fly from it more than once...
I was once asked if I was "a paranoid for carrying my Kahr".
    "Nope" I said, "just prepared".
" prepared for what" he asked?

      Mic?

I wonder how many parts are made in China?

I've never seen a country so hell bent on destroying itself. I'm talking about our country.

Don't get too nervous. China bought this decommissioned carrier from Russia in 1998.

KINDA TELLS u where China is at in technology to buy a 15 year old decommissioned carrier from Russia, who also never built a carrier worth a fokk either. I would conider a big fart in a movie cineam more threatening than that fokking carrier. Just sayin..

We built our first carrier about ninety years ago, the USS Langley CV-1 which was converted from a collier. It took us about twenty years to learn how to use one, and that was flying mostly very slow biplanes. It took another 5 or 6 years to learn how to operate the early jets from a carrier. Today with Mach 2+ aircraft, I can imagine the learning curve is very steep, especially for a newbie who has never operated a carrier of any kind. I think I'll start worrying in about 2035.

whatta do we have 15-16 carriers and our oldest and worst is years ahead of this chinese one, hell they don't have planes for it yet, let alone what O'Dell stated. WTf, they are entritled to have what ever they want, they as aways choose to copy instead of innovate.
Good for them, those rotten rocksuckers. they outta have a big party for that POS they call a carrier and invite the great one to even christen it. Just sayin.

No one told the media either that this ship has no motor, but 400 chinese midgets, with 15 ft oars, 200 out of each side of the ship. The speed is undisclosed, depending on the health of the 400. Just sayin..

I have often wondered that since it's so difficult to land a jet on a moving carrier and since the technology exists to take off and land a plane with a computer and no pilot why don't they just let a computer handle the carrier landings? Is that even possible?

As for China I wouldn't discount them too much as we have sold them the rope to hang us with and whatever high tech material we haven't given them they stole from us...

When VP Biden was on a visit to China I think last year they demonstrated their flying version of our F-22 Raptor which our intelligence thought was at least 10 years down the road before they could build one and that discovery shocked alot of folks at the Pentagon....Can you say SURPRISE!!!...

We currently have ten Nimitz class carriers plus the Enterprise, all nuclear powered. However the Big E will be decommissioned in a few months. [It's about time] There are two Ford class carriers building, the Gerald Ford and the John F. Kennedy.

The F/A 18 takes off via computer control and has the capability of landing the same way. However they don't, because no Naval Aviator is going to let a computer land HIS aircraft.

Don't get too worked up about the "Chinese F-22". It's a pale shadow of the real thing, and just because they built it to look stealthy, doesn't mean it is. BTW, it's not very. There are at least six or seven better fighters in the world, and three or four are ours. I'm more worried about Chinese submarines than any other ship, ground vehicle, or aircraft they have, and I'm not that worried about the subs. As far as their huge army is concerned, only countries that have a border with China need worry, and maybe Taiwan because they're so close. It would be hard to march across the Pacific, and they don't have the ships or aircraft to move them.

Thanks O'Dell, thats good to know...While we are on this subject I recently bought from www.shoppbs.org a 10 DVD set titled "Carrier" and it follows a deployment of the Nimitz and looks at every aspect of life aboard a Carrier from the lowest sailer scrubbing grease off the catapult cable all the way up to the Captain and Flight leader....

The whole 10 hour set was only like $30.00 bucks and is very entertaining, well made and filmed...Makes me wish I had joined the Navy as a lad...Give it a look and if your into Carriers and Aircraft its a winner...
