  • Battery Trick

A friend just sent me an email with a short video showing something I didn't know before...AA batteries are expensive even when bought in volume and we go through lots of them...The video showed that if you buy a 6 volt lantern battery for a big flashlight and peel off the label then take a flat head screwdriver and pry off the top which may take a little effort but when it pops off you cut the wires and turn it upside down and what comes out but 32 AA no label batteries so for 4 bucks or so that a 6 volt lantern battery costs and a little work you can get a whole bunch of super cheap AA batteries....

Anybody ever heard of doing this?...This post was sent while I was thinking about cleaning my PM40 later tonight...

You weren't one of them fellas that blew a lot of stuff up when you were a little kid were you. I can almost visualize your work bench full of wire and cap gun caps, and combustibles all over the place.

I recognize the signs cause I were one too.

For the record I did not know this about 6volt lantern batteries but you just gotta know that I'll know before long.

I can tell you that if you take apart one of those 9 volt batteries that the individual batteries in them are AAAA size! This size goes in my hearing aid controller and are very hard to find in a lot of places (think overseas and even here in the US). Can't remember who told me but he was right.

The link was to the wrong battery, but the AA one was listed on the same menu.

                    All hocus pocus anyhow.

I wonder how many fools get hurt really bad because of something they see on youtube and try and do it better themselves and one up the video...After watching some of those other videos it would be a miracle if some of those guys didnt slice off a couple of digits using a razor box cutter to try and cut the hard plastic off the top...In a couple the guys were using a screwdriver to try and pry the top off while holding the battery in the other hand, one slip and it's Luca Brasi time with a hand stabbed to the workbench and one dumb ars was breaking the hard plastic with a pair of pliers with no eye protection and pieces of plastic shrapnel flying all over the place...

Maybe they should change the web site name to Darwintube...

Methinks this may have been started by someone that works for a financially struggling 6v battery factory.

I've personally taken 6v batteries apart, and they did in fact contain 4 D cells.
