  • Kahr are you listening? SS K45 Elite where are you?

    I have a dream.
I keep waiting for the Kahr Holy Grail.
    The Kahr Unicorn.
The all stainless K45 Elite ACP.

My only option as I wait is a Heckler and Koch HK45C LEM.
She will hold me for a while, but I'm putting in my advanced order now.

    Until then -

Nice dream. I would settle for the non-Elite. Maybe Kahr will listen. I think they would sell like hot cakes if priced along the lines of the current all steel models.

I think I would prefer an MK45 to go with my MK40.

I think an MK45 would really fit in nicely with off duty carry leo'S. jUST SAYIN
. My PM9 has over 34,000+ rounds through it, and runs much better than an illegal trying to get across our border

          MK45?

          I like it.
          SS MK45 Elite.

          I'll take either one.
But since I already have the HK45C and MK45 backup sounds like a fine idea!
          Might look something like this?

The HK 45C is a pretty good choice; it was good enough for Matt Bissonnette (alias Mark Owen), and I have one too.

What's not to like? I'm not waiting for anything else, except the threaded barrel I have on order for it - you know, so I can have more barrels. I'm sure you understand.

And so I can be really quiet when I shoot it, after I get that other missing part that I have to wait so long for.

I'm in the category of hoping for a stainless Kahr 45 as well. I would be all over it as they say. I just recently picked up a CM9 as my first Kahr and I like it a bunch. Much better put together than I expected. A steel 45 just seems like a glaring omission from the lineup, I was surprised to find out the don't build one already.

                      Dear Kahr,

Please don't make the K45. If you make one then I will just have to get one because I love my Kahr's and I already own two .45's (includes a CW45.) Plus I would have to buy my wife something of the same or greater value which I don't want to do at the moment.

                      Thanks for your consideration,

                      A faithful Kahr supporter.

I have had this conversation with the folks at Kahr. I think the main concern is at that price point, how well would it compete against similarly sized 1911s? I understand that concern. Personally, I think it would do fine given some folks are not comfortable with the 1911's cocked-and-locked carry mode. K series guns also have a very flat profile, enhancing their concealability. It might not sell as well as the K9, but this and other forum posts suggest there is a market.

I work with a number of companies, and constantly observe how the better ones concentrate on the things and products that they do best.

While I don't know how Kahr's sales, profits and competition differ across their various models, they face the same "market segmentation" situation that all other companies do, i.e. things can be very different in one segment than another. For example, the buyers for MK9's are likely very different from those who buy CW9's, and Kahr probably makes more profit on one than the other, maybe much more.

From observation of what I see for sale, it seems that Kahr's "sweet spot" is in the 9mm and .40 calibers, and in the smaller models of each. I am guessing, but I suspect they sell far fewer .380's and .45's for some reason - perhaps competition, or perhaps most potential buyers of those calibers prefer products that are unlike the one type of gun that Kahr is good at.

The more products and variations that a company has, the bigger their management burden and the less their focus is on what they do well.

I have seen a number of companies try to expand their product lines by branching out into areas that are outside of their "sweet spot" and take a financial beating as a result - sometimes fatal or nearly so.

The military concept of "concentration of force" comes to mind.
