  • Wynn's 9mm barrels & black base plates

I got my latest order from Kahr Wednesday and decided to compare Kahr 9mm barrels... the ones I have. I had been thinking about getting the new-to-me P9 Mag-na-ported, but the Kahr 4" ported barrels were on sale and I decided to add one to my order. I got a new smaller sized Looper belt, too, along with some replacement extractors and parts for my K9. I also got another black magazine base plate kit so that I have one for each of my polymers.

First the P9 barrels... Pm9 shown for comparison. The ported one is a dull gray, not polished... inside and out. My latest P380 was that way, too, and remained that way after a trip to the factory for a bad extractor replacement. Maybe this is a cost saving deal... non-shiny finish?

I tried all 4 barrels in the other 9mm's and only the PM9's fit it. That obvious in the pictures due to the barrel hood and locking band forward of it.

The ported P9 barrel did seem to fit the K9, but there are differences besides the feed ramp of the K9's barrel being thicker or more robust on the left side. The K9 seemed to function with the ported barrel installed but I did not chamber any ammo.

More pix of the two P9 barrels.

On the right side of the ported barrel it is labelled 9x19 P9, though it will fit the CW9, too. The other barrel's bores aren't real shiny because I did a quick cleaning... wipedown with silicone cloth and a light patch through the barrels. I had planned on most of my shooting to be with the K9 and blew an extractor out of it shooting some possibly bad "factory reloads"... and, yep, another case ruptured, cutting my range trip short.

I took a LOT of pictures trying to compare the 4 9mm barrels.

The K9, P9, and PM9 barrels are in the next pictures. I tried the longer barrels in the PM9 and they were too wide to seat in the slide. The locking band and barrel hoods are too different, also. The P9 barrels seemed to fit the K9, but I didn't try any ammo chambering.

Note the left side of the K9's feed ramp.

Comparing the pistols frames and slides and all four barrels.

The K9 extractors seem interchangeable with the PM9 and P9. I've put PM9 ones in the other two after case ruptures in them and extractor losses. I've only found one of three at the range... the P9's... AFTER I replaced its with an PM9 one and continued shooting.

And now some pix of the black magazine base plate kits from Kahr.

As I did with the P40, I put an O-ring on the magazine with the metal base plate to stop pinching. I haven't fired the P9 with the metal one, but the 3/32" thick by 3/4" inner diameter O-ring fits and doesn't cause binding or loosening of the lockup of the magazine, so I'll go ahead with the O-ring without trying for a pinch.

I'll video the P9 test and get some freeze-frame flashes of the ported barrel firing. And I'll see if it helps my shooting any. I still jerk the danged trigger... even when I concentrate! I'm in a hurry when shooting.

Nice!!! I'm not so patently waiting on a range report.

This thread looks suspiciously like a Barrel Report to me - LOL!

Looks like I'm not the only KahrTalk member into barrels.

I'm sure most everyone is very tired of my Barrel Reports.
              But just between you and me;
              I have a German H&K P2000 40Sw 3.62" barrel arriving next week.
Understand the P2000 357 and 40 mags, other than markings, are identical including followers.

                  UPDATE:
                  Just ordered a second P2000 40 barrel.
Cause truth be known - I have two identical twin German P2000 357s.
And $169 for a German made OEM H&K Barrel?
                  I can't pass that up!

I was going to order some flat base plates but they was $8 a piece. I may have kept my CW9 with the long grip. I hated the plastice CW9 base plates. Not looking back now though, I like my CW9c. Jim

The "kits" are $15 and the black kit was "just" $5 more. I hope those hold up.

Your magazines worked well and the new 4" ported barrel was outstanding... held down barrel rise and lowered recoil a bit. As soon as I can find updates to my Canon photo software, I'll see what I can do with stills from the video. I crashed my new Win7/64 laptop trying to install the software on it. I just downloaded some updates, but I have to get to the good gun show today! I'll have our hurricane fund along in case I see a "real deal" on something I "need". I've taken it with me many times and never spent a nickel, though. Wifey got her first paycheck from her new job yesterday and I still have to be careful with what money we have. I really thought about the CW45 with new NS in the marketplace... great deal, but I want a P45.

No GREAT deals at the gun show, but I did buy a couple of boxes of Speer 124-gr +P Gold Dots, Short Barrel, for $24 each, tax included. Others wanted $30 to $40 a box of 20!

I saw a P9 with fuzzy grips and a Pearce pinkie grip. The grip was "covert" or owner-shortened... priced at only $649!

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder... and love CAN be BLIND... BUT, it was FUGLY!

Let me see if I can scare up some range photos with flashes. I've been to the range several times but I had to replace my hard drive and installed a newer OS... Windows 7 Professional and I just recently finally downloaded and installed the Canon camera software updates for Win7 64-bit. I remember that the angle I used for the camera and the lighting weren't conducive to great flash stills and the camera wasn't catching many flashes at 30 fps.

                          I did post some here:

It would appear that the ported barrel could be used as a bottle opener in a pinch. Of course, you could always shoot the cap off the bottle if necessary.
