O.K. How many of you very knowledgeable folks out there knewthat a rifle like this even existed......

especially back then? I sure didn't. This is a must watch and is very interesting! Even back then they Knew that peace can be maintained though superior fire power.

I was aware of the gun. It was featured in the American Rifleman many years ago. If you aren't Familiar with the American Rifleman it's because you are not an NRA member. The American Rifleman is one of the NRA's official publications.

Great video, thanks for sharing. The entire expedition was a wonderment. I have always been monumentally impressed by their survey skill and accuracy.
Judging by today's left wing, looks like Senator Joe McCarthy was right after all.

The thing they did that just blew my mind is, the made lead casks to hold the gun power. The cask held enough powder for the number balls they could make from the cask of lead!

I read the whole story a few years ago and that's what kicked off my "why don't we have air rifles with the same power as a firearm rifle?" kick. I've since been directed to a few really powerful air rifles, however I don't know haw they compare.

I read about that a few times. One of the first things they'd do when encountering new indian tribes was put on a demo of the rifle and its repeat fire capabilities, and told them everyone had one, but they only had 2 I think. The indians never gave them much problem after the demo. I think some of those really nice .22 caliber air rifles approach the ballistics of a 22 short, maybe more.

Those quackenbush guns are really cool. Wonder how long it takes to pump it up manually?

                      I did, I did!

As far as price goes, looks like the most expensive that Quackenbush had in 2010 was $875. Also, the air pistols look pretty impressive. Even has some in 308 and 45 caliber (made to shoot 200 grain LSWs).

Don't think I'd want to have to pump any of those up manually

You don't know how dangerous a little puff of air can be until you've been near Jocko when he's been eating bean burritos and washing them down with beer.
