  • Good place to buy grips?

I don't know of very many sites. I have used vz grips before but was wondering if there are any better sites or if vz grips is one of the best? All I know is they are not cheap especially after buying the screws. Is there somewhere where the screws and bushings you need for the slim grips are cheaper?

VZ Grips are nice, for sure. My brother & I have used the following sites for grips, screws & bushings (for slim grips).

    http://www.raascogrips.com/

    http://www.woodgrips.com/

    And for the more spendy:

    http://www.esmeralda.cc/

And last but not least, check with Bawana, one of our fearless forum leaders, he makes some great looking grips!

Yogi 117, for the raasco site what option would I choose for a kimber ultra cdp 2? Would it just be a compact 1911 choice?

I was just looking the cdp, oh now I see cdp II. The cdp is even smaller than officer size.

I don't mess with much of anything but wood or stabilized wood. Black would equal ebony, I'm not sure what we could do for grey.

I thought the CDP 2 was the same as officer size, but it is smaller?

It may be officer size. Someone around here will know. It looked smaller but I now looked again and it just might be officer size. I have a Para Officer size if the holes are the same which I'm pretty sure they would be.

I would start at the Compact 1911 link on the left & follow their instructions. You might want to e-mail them and make sure of any fitment before buying. I'm not familiar with the smaller 1911 models...sorry can't be of more help.

Oh ok thanks, does anybody know what a micarta grip is? Is it just like a rubber grip?

Not like rubber. It's very hard. It's like a fiberglass weave with various patterns etc.

I've tried working with it a time or two and wasn't pleased with the result.

It does make an excellent grips, I apparently just don't have the right stuff to make it happen.

So micarta are pretty decent well made grips?

Micarta is the material, it is as hard or harder as wood grips but has a uniform texture and color with no grain to it. Micarta is some time paper/epoxy and sometimes cloth/epoxy with each type giving a different effect.
How "decent (and) well made (the) grips" are depends on who makes them...

RAASCO was linked earlier. I have a set from him for my Taurus 1911 in a purple Dymondwood and a set of his hex head screws. They fit perfect and look great. Go TCU!

The second pic is from the RAASCO website as an example.
Pasted from there: "Phenolic grips for compact or full size 1911. These grips have five vertical flutes with fine horizontal grooves machined into the grips. Phenolic laminate is a tough material that is made from layers of canvas, linen or paper and phenolic resin."

                          Good luck with the quest.

" prepared for what" he asked?
                          "more stuff than you are"

I agree with Planedude, it's very tough and durable stuff. Quite popular these days, right up there with G10 and stuff like that.
